Like always, iPhone fans are eagerly waiting for the 2019 iPhone models, but for now, there is no official information. However, this latest piece of information should get fans excited. Apple has registered 11 different iPhone 11 models in the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) database (first spotted by MySmartPrice).
What the EEC filing reveals
The 11 iPhone 11 models the U.S. company has registered are A2215, A2216, A2217, A2218, A2219, A2220, A2221, A2223, A2160, A2161 and A2111. Such a filing with the Eurasian Economic Commission database is mandatory for encrypted devices sold in Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
As you can see, the listings include two sets of numbers, one starting with A21xx and other with A22xx. Then there are seven consecutive numbers from A2215 to A2221. The current iPhone XS models currently come in six variants: the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max and three storage options for each.
Thus, it is possible that A2215 to A2221 are model numbers for the iPhone XS successors, while the remaining numbers represent the iPhone XR successors.
As of now it is not confirmed if these 11 models are the final list or if there will be more iPhone models. However, what is confirmed is that these listings are for iPhones as they are listed as “Smartphones of the trademark ‘Apple’.” Thus, there is a good chance these 11 iPhone 11 models will be part of Apple’s 2019 iPhone line-up.
According to the EEC filings, all the registered devices run on iOS 12, but this will likely change as iOS 13 is expected to be available later this year. Apple is expected to unveil iOS 13 and the new features coming with it at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.
This is not the first time we have seen Eurasian Economic Commission filings prior to the release of Apple products. EEC filings have also been seen for previous iPad models, the Apple Watch Series 2 and Series 4, the AirPods, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, the 2018 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, and more. In January, the iPad Air and iPad Mini 5 also showed up in the EEC database ahead of their release a few months later.
What to expect from the iPhone 11
Rumors about the iPhone 11 models suggest there will again be 5.8- and 6.5-inch OLED iPhones and a 6.1-inch LCD iPhone. The 5.8- and 6.5-inch 2019 OLED iPhones are expected to succeed the 5.8- and 6.5-inch iPhone XS and XS Max, respectively.
Apple’s 2019 OLED phones are expected to feature triple-lens cameras, while the LCD variant will likely have a dual-lens camera setup. Apple is expected to procure the third lens, which could be an ultra-wide lens , from Sony. This third lens will help expand the iPhone’s range of zoom. Apple may include computer vision technology as well to combine the data from each of the three lenses to offer more detailed photos. Moreover, the selfie camera will also likely be upgraded to provide better images.
Other than the camera changes, Apple may use a new frosted glass design on the back of the OLED models, while the LCD variant may get two new color options, lavender and green. Other expected changes are a more powerful A13 chip, a bigger battery and bilateral wireless charging for the AirPods.
In a recent research note, trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed Apple will add modified-PI (MPI) for the antennas in the iPhone 11 models. Although the use of MPI may not have any major change in terms of network performance, it could help Apple find less expensive options for its next-gen iPhones.
Other than these changes, the 2019 iPhone models are expected to be similar to the 2018 models. In terms of design, the 2019 iPhones will also likely be the same as their 2018 counterparts. However, the new iPhones could feature a larger, square camera bump to accommodate the new camera setup.
Nothing is confirmed for now, including the names of the 2019 iPhones. However, for now, iPhone XI or iPhone 11 appears to be the best possibilities. Like always, Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 11 models in September, while preorders usually start a few days after the announcement. The new iPhones will likely go on sale two weeks after the reveal date.
