Activist investors gained 47 board seats worldwide in the first two months of 2019 as Asia is bright spot

Activist investors are behind 2018’s director haul after two months.

Activist investors gained 47 board seats worldwide in the first two months of 2019, down 27% on the 64 in the same period of 2018. The fall was slightly less severe in the U.S., where activists came away with 24% fewer seats, however, Asia was one bright spot with the number of seats gained rising from 7 to 11 over the period.

The data, collected by Activist Insight Online from settlements, proxy contests, and regulatory filings, is the latest addition to Activist Insight’s monthly stats, which highlight the volume of activism for subscribers to Activist Insight Monthly magazine and members of the media.

Volumes of activism by the number of companies targeted is down on 2018, with 26% fewer companies publicly subjected to activist demands in the U.S. and 23% fewer worldwide.
