PUBG Corp recently introduced a new Lite version of its popular battle royale game, called PUBG Lite. And now, the company has launched the PUBG Lite open beta, which is a free-to-play game for the low-end PCs.
PUBG Lite open beta – all you need to know
PUBG Corp. kicked off the PUBG Lite open beta yesterday. However, the beta is available only in Thailand. The company did note that the testing phase will expand to more regions going forward. Though the company didn’t reveal the name of the regions, the Lite version is presumably for the Asian market.
Since the PUBG Lite open beta is now live, users can download it for free from the official site. Those outside Thailand can also download the beta, but they will need to use VPNs to trick servers about their location.
PUBG says that they have been running the closed beta and focus group tests for the Lite version in Southeast Asia (SEA) since October of last year. PUBG says that the Lite version is for the players “who were previously unable to access the game due to the specification requirements.”
As per the company, PUBG Lite includes Miramar (desert map), Erangel (original PUBG map) and the game’s training mode. Further, players will be able to play in Solo/Duo/Squads in third-person perspective. More game modes and maps will come to the Lite version later. Here is the trailer of the game.
The biggest attraction, however, is the much reduced system requirements compared to the regular version. The reduced system requirements won’t affect the gameplay experience, the company confirms, adding that the Lite version will also be 100-player matches.
“…the PUBG LITE team has focused on balancing lower hardware requirements, without compromising on our quality standards. The end result is a build that is playable even on computers and laptops utilizing integrated graphics,” PUBG says in a blog post.
Minimum system specifications for PUBG Lite are: Windows 7, 8, or 10 64bit, Intel HD Graphics 4000, Intel Core i3 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM and 4GB disk space. PUBG also listed recommended specs for the game: Windows 7, 8, or 10 64bit, AMD Radeon HD7870 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 660, Intel Core i5 2.8GHz, 8GB RAM and 4GB disk space.
Launching a Lite version is a good move for the company as it would make the game accessible to more PC players. However, it remains to be seen if and when it will hit other markets. Previously, PUBG Mobile Lite was introduced in the Philippines to make the game accessible to more Android users.
PUBG Mobile gets Zombie mode
Since its launch in 2018, the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (popularly known as PUBG) has been the rage among gamers. A mobile version of the game – called PUBG Mobile – is also available, and it recently got the much-awaited update. This new update (0.11.0) is currently in beta, but offers the coolest addition ever.
The biggest addition to the game is the Zombie mode, which is the result of the crossover between the PUBG Mobile and Resident Evil 2. This new update takes the battle royale experience to a completely new level. The zombie mode is officially called Sunset and is available only in the Erangel map. Apart from the Zombies, the mode also includes bosses from Resident Evil 2. Killing the bosses will earn a player more in-game resources.
“Fight to survive as usual on Erangel, but Zombies and Bosses from Resident Evil 2 will also spawn on the map! Kill them to get resources and items,” read the patch notes.
Though Zombie mode is the biggest attraction of the 0.11.0 beta, the update brings other exciting features as well. The update brings a moonlight mode to the Vikendi. This new mode is basically a night model with better effects. Further, the update also adds Sanhok map to Arcade, push-to-talk chat in matches, Resident Evil 2 main menu theme and music, and Personal Spaces where player information and Connections are displayed. “Select a friend with Synergy 400 or above as Partner to stand by your side in your Space!”
Also, to make the game more interesting, the update tweaks the damage stacking outside the safe zone. Now, players further away from the safe zone will be inflicted with more damage. The update also tweaks the air raid in Sanhok and Vikendi. Now the air raid area will also reduce as the safe zone reduces.
