Leaked Images Of New Vivo Smartphone Claim Never-Before-Seen Design

Updated on

It was already known this year smartphone technology would reach new levels, thanks to the slew of foldable phones set debut this year. However, if a new rumor is to be believed, then foldable phones are not only the revolutionary new form factor we could see this year. Vivo is rumored to be working on a never-before-seen smartphone design some describe as “crazy.”

What to expect from the new Vivo phone

This new revelation comes from trusted tipster Ice Universe, who tweeted images purporting to show a new Vivo handset code-named “the Waterdrop.” The tipster shared two images of the new Vivo phone: one showing a side view and the other showing part of the back panel.

With the image, the tipster said the new Vivo phone will feature a design which has never been seen on a smartphone.

“…This phone will subvert people’s past perception of smartphones,” the tweet reads. “I can guarantee that you have never seen a similar phone design, this is the first time in the history of mobile phones.”

In another tweet, the tipster said the design of the new Vivo phone was inspired by the cosmic detectors in the novel The Three-Body Problem. The cosmic detectors in the novel were called Waterdrops.

Other than the leaked images, there is no other information on the new Vivo phone, but based on those images, it appears the handset has no power button or volume rocker. It also seems the phone does not have any ports and sports a durable, smooth metal or glass body. Further, the image of the phone’s rear shell suggests that it curves toward the middle, which could be narrower than usual.

All such design features, including the full edge-to-edge screen and the lack of a notch, bezels, and buttons, do support a “waterdrop”-like design that is elegant, clean and simple.

It is also possible that the leaked images show a foldable Vivo phone, but so far, we haven’t heard anything about the company working on a foldable phone. Thus, it’s possible that this never-before-seen design is of a the company’s foldable phone.

Can Vivo develop a never-before-seen smartphone design?

Nothing about this new Vivo phone is confirmed, and the above speculations are only based on the parts shown in the leaked images. However, we may not have to wait much longer to learn more about this never-before-seen design. According to Ice Universe, this new Vivo phone is “coming soon,” so we might see it at the Mobile World Congress next month in Barcelona, which is scheduled for February 25-28.

A never-before-seen smartphone design from Vivo seems believable as well. In the past, the Chinese company has come up with some truly amazing smartphones with odd, but attractive designs. It has also launched smartphones with features that have never been seen on other handsets before.

Last year, the Chinese company launched the X20 Plus UD, which was the first smartphone to have an in-display fingerprint scanner. In June, the company showcased the Vivo NEX, which featured a notch-less display and a pop-up selfie camera. Then toward the end of the year, the company launched the Vivo NEX Dual Display featuring front- and rear-facing screens. Now it appears the Chinese company set to take the smartphone world by storm with a never-before-seen smartphone design.

Vivo may not be a very popular brand outside China and the few other markets that it serves, but this latest rumor will certainly capture the curiosity of most smartphone users.

Nex Dual Display Edition was also never seen before

Vivo’s Nex Dual Display Edition is another never-before-seen smartphone design. The phone uses two displays to get rid of the notch and the front camera. This Vivo phone sports a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display on the front with a 2340 x 1080 resolution. The secondary display on the rear is a 5.5-inch FHD AMOLED panel. The rear display with triple-lens camera setup helps the user capture amazing selfies.

Vivo claims the rear display is not just for show. It enables users to add photos to customize their phone. Other specifications include a Snapdragon 845 processor, a 3,500 mAh battery and 10 GB of RAM.
