New Google Pixel 3 Lite Video Leaks Company’s New Mid-Range Phone

Updated on

Google is not very good at keeping its phones a secret before they’re released. The latest flagship models, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, are the perfect examples. Details about the two phones were leaked so often and rumors about them circulated so much that there’s a Reddit thread suggesting they are the most-leaked phones in history. Now the long-rumored Pixel 3 Lite, which is expected to be a mid-range phone, is turning out to be no exception to the rule. The phone has been revealed in a new Pixel 3 Lite video posted on the Andro News YouTube channel on Jan. 16.

The mid-range Pixel 3 is apparently known by the code-name “Sargo.” The smartphone is reportedly equipped with a Snapdragon 670 chipset and sports 4 GB of RAM, which is not bad for a mid-range phone. More importantly, its outside appearance closely resembles that of the Pixel 3 if we exclude the bezels. The phone sports bezels above and below the screen. It also apparently lacks the second lens on its selfie camera.

The phone seems to be made out of plastic, which isn’t surprising. Based on the new Google Pixel 3 Lite video, it will probably sport a headphone jack, which may be a nice surprise for some users because more and more smartphone makers, including Google, are leaving it out of their devices. The screen is said to measure 5.56 inches with a resolution of 2220 x 1080. The battery is reportedly 2, 915 mAh.

The Pixel 3 Lite video suggests the camera is not much different than that of the original Pixel 3. The smartphone sports a 12-megapixel sensor with 1.4-micron pixels and an optical lens with an aperture of f/1.8. The video’s creators said the phone is capable of taking “the same quality photos as the Pixel 3.” However, given that there is no side-by-side comparison of how the two cameras perform, we would take this claim with a grain of salt. More importantly, the phone is equipped with a Snapdragon 670 chipset, which means it will have a more difficult time rendering photographs than the original Pixel 3. It’s also doubtful the photo quality will be the same.

Given the intensity of the leaks, it seems likely Google will announce a launch event soon. However, given how many details about the phone have already been leaked, we may not even need an introductory event. Last year the Google Pixel 3 XL was seen on sale in Hong Kong ahead of its launch.

The creator of the new Pixel 3 Lite video believes the reveal will be after Google’s I/O conference this year. The video doesn’t offer any indication about the price of the device, which is important to know when considering a mid-range device. Nevertheless, given the specs, it should be cheaper than its flagship cousins.
