In the last couple of months, we’ve seen Instagram add a lot of useful features, including IGTV, more detailed stories, new stickers, shopping via Stories, and much more. In its latest attempt, Instagram is adding a new feature which allows users to shop for products from videos. The products available for purchase will be listed below the video post which features them.
Instagram wrote in a blog post that this is the season in which Christmas wishes and gift lists are made. To tap into that demand, the social network decided to make it easier for shoppers to make their purchases via its app.
This is not the company’s first attempt to expand the shopping experience. In September, Instagram introduced product stickers in Stories, which allow users to learn more about the products they see in Stories. There’s also a new shopping channel in the Explore section of the app. Users can shop for the brands they follow and learn about new brands they would be interested in.
In its new update, Instagram announced three new ways to shop in the app. The app lets you discover even more products than before, make purchases from your favorite brands, and make a wishlist in an organized manner.
The first of the three new features from Instagram is the ability to save products in a new Shopping collection. When you see a new item and decide you want it, you can save it to a Shopping collection where you can see it later. To save an item to your Shopping collection, tap the save icon at the bottom-right corner of the screen to save it. This is similar to the already-existing collections, and both are accessible from the user’s profile.
Instagram also tested the Shop tab on business profiles, so business users can see all the products featured in their shopping posts. If you own a business profile, tap the “Shop” button, and the list of products will show on your screen, including their names, prices, and the post which featured them.
As mentioned above, Instagram also lets you shop for products from videos in your feed. For example, if a brand you follow posts a video, you can tap the shopping icon in the bottom-left corner to learn more about the products featured in the video.
