Updated on

The OnePlus 6 is barely a few months old and its successor is almost here. The Chinese smartphone vendor has confirmed that it would hold the OnePlus 6T launch event on October 30th in New York City and New Delhi. Even before the phone’s unveiling, it has become available for pre-order on Amazon India. As it turns out, India will be the first country to get OnePlus 6T, followed by China and Europe.

OnePlus 6T launch dates in different countries

The rumor mill had claimed earlier that OnePlus was planning to hold the OnePlus 6T launch event on October 17th. The Chinese company has now confirmed that the event would take place on October 30th as opposed to October 17. If you are interested in attending the event either in New York or New Delhi, you have to buy a ticket first.

The ticket for the New Delhi event costs INR 999. People attending the event – which is set to commence at 8:30 PM at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi – will get a OnePlus merchandise goody bag and Bullet Wireless headphones. The New York event is scheduled to start at 11 AM Eastern Time.

The OnePlus 6T will go on sale in India on November 2nd. Days later, the phone will hit the Chinese store shelves on November 5th, followed by Europe and other markets on November 6th. Sales will kick off at 10 AM GMT on Nov.6 in the UK and 10 AM CET in European markets.

Pre-order OnePlus 6T right now (at least in India)

Amazon India has set up a dedicated page on its website to take OnePlus 6T pre-orders even before its unveiling. The sale will start at 12 PM local time on November 2, but you can pre-order the device right now. You have to buy a INR 1,000 Amazon Pay gift card that you’ll be able to use towards the purchase of the phone on Nov.2nd or 3rd.

People who pre-order the new phone will get a INR 500 cashback in the form of Amazon Pay balance and the Type-C Bullet earphones worth INR 1,499 for free. Amazon will also be offering No Cost EMI and Amazon Pay EMI options to sweeten the deal.

With OnePlus 6T launch just around the corner, the current OnePlus 6 has is selling at massive discounts on Amazon India. The leaks and rumors about OnePlus 6T have helped consumers decide whether they want the OnePlus 6 at a discount or wait for the 6T. Celebrating the Great Indian Festival, Amazon is selling OnePlus 6 for INR 29,999 right now, down from INR 34,999. The 6T will have a couple of features that the current model lacks, but it will also be more expensive.

OnePlus 6T rumored specs

The OnePlus 5T introduced the Face Unlock functionality. The OnePlus 6T will bring a new optical fingerprint reader to let you unlock the phone by placing your finger on the screen. The Chinese company explained on its website that the optical fingerprint module includes a small lens to accurately register your fingerprint when you place your finger on the cover glass. It uses the display as a light source to enhance the outline of your fingerprint.

To improve security, OnePlus 6T will store your fingerprint information in a dedicated ‘Trust Zone’ in the Snapdragon 845 processor. When you use the Screen Unlock method, the sensor will compare your fingerprint against the information stored in the Trust Zone.

The OnePlus 6T is rumored to be available in three options: 6GB RAM with 64GB storage, 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, and 8GB RAM with 256GB internal storage. It will run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, though OnePlus would roll out the Android 9.0 Pie update soon after launch. The phone is expected to pack a 3,700mAh battery.

The device will reportedly feature a 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch, which is a smaller version of the notch that houses just the camera similar to Vivo V11 Pro and Realme 2 Pro.

There will be no 3.5mm headphone jack on the OnePlus 6T. It was the sacrifice the company had to make to accommodate the optical fingerprint sensor. OnePlus head Pete Lau told media that 59% of existing OnePlus users own wireless headphones, and the percentage is only expected to increase in the future. So, the lack of audio jack shouldn’t be a problem for most users.

The OnePlus 6T is said to have a 20-megapixel selfie camera, up from 16MP on the OnePlus 6. On the back panel, it will have the same 16MP and 20MP lenses as the OnePlus 6.

OnePlus hasn’t disclosed how much the OnePlus 6T would cost but we expect it to be more expensive than its predecessor. The optical fingerprint sensors are expensive, and they would push up the price of the phone. Pete Lau has told Cnet that the Screen Unlock feature is “something very new and there’s a definite cost required for that new technology.” We expect it to start at around $550 for the base model. The OnePlus 6T launch date is just a few weeks away, so we’ll find out the official prices soon.
