Samsung’s Galaxy S phone line will mark 10 years in 2019. To celebrate the occasion and take on the three new iPhones, the Korean company is expected to launch three S10 devices with exciting features this year. One Galaxy S10 Plus camera rumor even claims the handset will have five lenses.
The latest Galaxy S10 Plus camera rumor
This latest Galaxy S10 Plus camera rumor comes from the Korean news site ETNews. The site claims the Plus variant will feature a camera with as many as five lenses: two on the front and three on the back. The other two variants are speculated to get a single-lens selfie camera and dual- and triple-lens cameras on the back.
Another Galaxy S10 Plus camera rumor from Techno Buffalo claims the handset will feature a 13-megapixel telephoto lens with 45-degree field of view, a 16-megapixel super-wide-angle lens with 123-degree field of view, and a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens with 78-degree field of view. Further, the rumor claims all three S10 phones will come with dual-aperture cameras. Only the S10 Plus is expected to have optical image stabilization in both the wide-angle and telephoto lenses, which would be similar to the Note 9 and the S9 Plus. However, ETNews believes it will be challenging for Samsung to acquire a big enough supply of camera modules for the S10 line.
Huawei has already released a phone with a triple-lens rear camera, and it is working to upgrade that phone next month. Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro is seen as the main iPhone XS competitor until Samsung releases its 2019 flagship.
Galaxy S10 Plus to support 5G and cost a fortune
Another rumor about the Galaxy S10 Plus claimed there would be a variant with 5G, the next generation of super-fast mobile data. The other two S10 models will be only 4G. The 5G version of the Galaxy S10 Plus is rumored to cost much more than the 4G variant. The 5G variant would certainly be expensive because it would need four or five more antennas. Further, reports suggested the 5G variant of the S10 Plus will be produced in limited quantities.
However, Samsung denied those rumors, saying that the S10 won’t be the first 5G phone. The Korean firm typically launches its new Galaxy S phones in February or March every year. Though the company has given no details on which phone will be the first 5G model, there are rumors that the Samsung foldable phone could receive that honor.
The Bell reports that the Galaxy S10 handsets will be announced at CES 2019. The company could launch the handset when the first 5G networks roll out. Korean carriers are expected to turn 5G on in the first week of March. Samsung did a similar thing in 2013 when it launched a Galaxy S4 LTE-A option a few months after the initial Galaxy S4 roll-out.
Further, The Bell claims there are three handsets code-named Beyond 0, Beyond 1 and Beyond 2, with Beyond 1 and 2 being the S10 and S10 Plus. The Beyond 0 will reportedly be a new addition to the S line-up: an entry-level variant with an affordable price tag. The 5G S10 Plus will supposedly be a derivative of the Beyond 2 line.
What to expect from the Galaxy S10 handsets
As far as other S10 rumors, the three S10 handsets are expected to feature 5.8-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.4-inch screens. Samsung is also known to be testing a built-in fingerprint scanner, but it is unlikely to debut in the company’s 2019 handsets.
Samsung is also expected to add new color schemes for the S10 handsets. Specifically, there are rumors the Korean company could come up with an option to rival Huawei’s gradient options. As of now, it is not known what Samsung actually plans to introduce, whether there will be more gradient options or anything completely different.
Additionally, the Korean firm is expected add faster RAM and storage modules to the S10 handsets. Further, the company could add a 3D face scanner to the upcoming handsets. Samsung was criticized for not introducing a 3D face scanner to compete with Apple’s Face ID. Reports suggest the Korean firm has partnered with 3D camera firm Mantis Vision to get the technology into the S10 line. For now, not much is known about the feature, but it is believed that Mantis Vision’s technology will achieve the same level of efficiency as Apple’s Face ID feature. The Bell also claims that the S10 will get a 3D face-sensing module.
