4 Simple Tools To Invest Like Warren Buffett

Everyone wants to know how to invest like Warren Buffett. After all he's generated returns of 20 percent per year for 50 years. Fortunately it's not as hard as you might think to generate the type of success that Warren Buffett has in this video. I'm going to show you four simple tools that you can use to invest like Warren Buffett. The first tool that you can use is Warren Buffett's own portfolio because Warren Buffett is an institutional investment manager with more than 100 million dollars in assets under management. He's required by law to disclose his holdings in quarterly filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. These filings are called 13 filings and they're easily accessible through the FCC website. I'm going to show you just how easy it is to pull up a 13 filing on the Security and Exchange Commission's Web site. After that I'm going to show you an even better resource for looking into Warren Buffett's portfolio to go to the Securities Exchange Commission website. LSW WWE see the GOP. There's a search bar on the front here research for filings for the company whose stock holdings you want to investigate in the case of Warren Buffett. That would be Berkshire Hathaway is the Berkshire Hathaway's the fourth entry on the list right here. Clicking on the link shows us a list of all of the company's historical S.E.C. filings.

You can see their most recent 13 F here and here we have a complete list of all the company's security holdings now as you can see this document is not completely comprehensive and you'll have to go through several different pages to see what exactly Warren Buffett owns a given time for because of this complexity we recommend using the website Weyl wisdom which shows you a better snapshot. The euro for whale wisdom is whale wisdom Dakang going to the Web site shows a search function at the top where you can type in Berkshire Hathaway and instantly see concise snapshot of Warren Buffett's current stock holdings scroll down and click holdings to see this information. As you can see we're now on a list of all of Warren Buffett's holdings along with other interesting information like this changing shares from the last quarter. If you look at Buffett's portfolio you'll notice something very interesting. His top six holdings represent more than 70 percent of his overall portfolio. These holdings are apple. Wells Fargo Bank of America the Kraft Heinz Company The Coca-Cola Company and American Express. If you're interested in learning more about Warren Buffett's portfolio I'm going to toss a link in the description of this video where you can download his portfolio waiting's and other financial characteristics of the stocks that he owns today. The next resource that you can use to invest like Warren Buffett is his shareholder letters. Unlike many other famous investors Warren Buffett has never written a book. Instead he prefers to share his wisdom through his Berkshire Hathaway and your letters. And before that the annual letters that he wrote to their partners in his investment partnership online through various resources you can find each of these letters which are a seriously valuable treasure trove of investment knowledge. I'm going to toss links to the discussion or you can download the early Berkshire Hathaway letters.

The later Berkshire Hathaway letters and before that the letters that he wrote to his investment partners in the Buffett Partnership the third tool that you can use to invest like Warren Buffett is Value Line value is a very well-known stock research service that provides 15 year snapshots on individual securities. As an example you can see the snapshot from Value Line of Coca-Cola here. Warren Buffett says the falling value line I don't know of any other system that's as good the snapshot it presents is an enormously efficient way for us to gather information about various businesses. I have yet to see a better way including fooling around on the Internet. That gives me the information as quickly unfortunately that the line is very expensive. A one year subscription cost of six hundred dollars. But there is a workaround. Essentially every public library in the United States has a subscription Value Line. You don't even need to go to the library to access it. Instead what you can do is get in credentials for the library's online portal which will allow you to access the value line from the comfort of your own home. The last resource that you can use to invest like Warren Buffett is public company annual reports. Warren Buffett is an avid reader of annual reports saying the following about them in terms of marketable securities or new offerings. We've never bought anything that's been pitched as investment banker or broker. We are in hundreds and hundreds of annual reports every year. If you want to invest like Warren Buffett you should follow the same path of reading annual reports instead of investing in things that are pitched to you by someone else.

The obvious question then is how do you find the annual reports of public companies. Fortunately it's very easy and quite similar to the method that we used to find 13 filings earlier in this video. The first thing you need to do is go to the website that debuted on of go down to the search bar and type in the name of the company whose annual report you'd like to read. The type of filing that we're going to be looking for is called a 10K which is just the formal name or the technical name for an annual report. Since the annual reports are only filed once per year it's usually easiest to just search for the 10k and here you have a list of all of Berkshire Hathaway's annual reports going back as long as the company has been registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
