Apple released the iOS 11.4 earlier this month, and has stopped signing the iOS 11.3.1 to ensure that users update their devices to the latest version available. But those who want to jailbreak their devices would want to stay on the firmware version 11.3.1 because CoolStar’s Electra tool might not support the 11.4. How to disable iOS OTA update
People who are lucky or smart enough to have remained on the 11.3.1 firmware would want to stay there until the jailbreak is released. Apple will try its best to get you to install the most recent firmware. And there is a good chance you might accidentally update the software if you tap through the dialog boxes without paying much attention. Here’s how to prevent Apple from keep nagging you so that you can stay peacefully on the 11.3.1 firmware:
Step-1: Launch the Safari browser on your iPhone or iPad that you want to jailbreak
Step-2: Go to this link and install the profile when prompted
Step-3: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation and Trust the profile
Step-4: Now reboot your device and then go to Settings > General > Software Update to check for new updates. You’ll not see the iOS 11.4 or newer versions available for download even if you are on the 11.3.1 or older firmware.
This method works because the profile you installed on your device enrolls you into the tvOS beta program. When your device checks for a compatible iOS update, it will only see tvOS betas. As a result, the software assumes that no new update is available. Whenever you feel like updating to newer iOS versions, you can remove the profile and reboot the device.
Latest update on the iOS 11.3.1 Electra jailbreak
Last week, CoolStar told fans that the iOS 11.3.1 Electra jailbreak tool was capable of liberating devices running iOS 11.2-11.2.6. The “rootfs remount” issue prevented the developer from jailbreaking the 11.3.1 devices. The Electra Team confirmed on Monday that the tool could now “fully jailbreak up to iOS 11.3.1,” which means the “rootfs remount” issue has been fixed. The tool could be released to the public soon.

The iOS 11.3.1 Electra jailbreak is based on Project Zero developer Ian Beer’s ‘tfpo’ exploit. CoolStar has already informed the jailbreak community that the updated Electra would not require an Apple Developer account, and that the tool will be released directly to the public. However, the developer hasn’t yet given a timeline for its rollout.
The Electra tool will support all iOS 11-compatible iPhones and iPads, including the iPhone X. It will also work with Cydia Installer and Substrate. CoolStar recently said the tool would even support devices that have only 16GB of storage, though users may lose a huge amount of storage. They will make the updated Electra more compact.
