The Galaxy S10 won’t launch until early next year. But the rumor mill is already flooded with Galaxy S10 leaks. Samsung’s mobile business head DJ Koh has told media in the past that the company would focus on providing the best possible user experience rather than rushing new features. It appears that Samsung is all confident about enhancing the user experience with a triple camera system and an in-display fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S10.
Analyst predicts triple camera system for the Galaxy S10
Citing KB Securities analyst Kim Dong-won, The Investor reports that the Galaxy S10 is going to sport a triple camera setup on the back. The device will also have a 3D sensor to offer 3D content recording and augmented reality experiences besides improving low-light photography and enhancing zoom. Dong-won didn’t mention the megapixel count or other specifications of the triple camera system that Samsung has developed for the Galaxy S10.
One of the reasons this year’s Galaxy S9 failed to meet Samsung’s sales expectations is that it carried only a minor improvement over Galaxy S8. The Korean company is pulling out all the stops for the next year’s flagship to celebrate 10th anniversary of the Galaxy S series. Samsung has been working on 3D depth-sensing modules in collaboration with Israel-based Mantis Vision to offer an iPhone X-like 3D sensing technology on the Galaxy S10.
This year’s iPhone X Plus is also rumored to have a triple camera setup on the back. The camera is one of the most important things consumers look at when buying a new phone. Samsung wouldn’t want to lag behind rivals in this aspect. Earlier this year, Huawei launched its P20 Pro flagship with a triple camera system. Benchmarking site DxOMark has described the P20 Pro as the world’s best smartphone camera.
DxOMark told Android Headlines that the triple camera setup would become more prevalent in the smartphone industry by next year. The Huawei P20 Pro sports a 40-megapixel wide-angle lens, an 8MP telephoto lens, and a 20MP monochrome sensor. All three of them offer optical image stabilization. It would be interesting to see how Samsung implements the new camera technology.
Galaxy S10 to have an in-display fingerprint sensor
Finally, it’s happening after numerous delays. Samsung has been trying to integrate the optical fingerprint reader into its flagship phones for almost two years, but it kept facing one problem after another. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently told investors that the feature would not be included in the Galaxy Note 9 due to “technological difficulties.” Now Korean media has confirmed that the Galaxy S10 will be Samsung’s first phone to launch with an in-display fingerprint scanner.
Sources familiar with the matter told ETNews that Samsung Display and its partners have been working on integrating the fingerprint sensor under Galaxy S10’s display. Samsung is going to use Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which will recognize fingerprints by transmitting an ultrasonic pulse against your fingerprint when you place it on the screen. It will also analyze the pores and ridges that are unique in each fingerprint.
Other rumored Galaxy S10 specs
Korean site The Bell recently reported that Samsung had finalized the Galaxy S10 design. The phone will continue to sport a Super AMOLED Infinity display with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. It will not have a notch, though. According to Twitter tipster Ice Universe, Samsung will reduce the thickness of the top and bottom bezels to increase the screen-to-body ratio to a record 94%, up from 83.6% on the Galaxy S9.
Ice Universe also reported that the S10 would have a display resolution higher than 600ppi compared to Galaxy S9’s 570ppi and iPhone X’s 458ppi. The device is said to feature 6GB LPDDR5 RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It will likely be powered by Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon 855 or Samsung’s own Exynos 9820 chip depending on the market. Both chips are rumored to be built using the 7nm manufacturing process, which means they will be faster and more energy efficient than their predecessors.

Business Korea recently indicated that the Galaxy S10 could be Samsung’s first smartphone to support 5G connectivity. Korean wireless carriers are preparing to roll out the 5G technology by March 2019, and Samsung would want to be prepared for that.
Galaxy S10 release date
Don’t be surprised if Samsung launches the Galaxy S10 under a new name. DJ Koh said during a press conference that Samsung was planning to change the naming scheme with the next year’s flagship model. Koh added that the new device would retain the ‘Galaxy’ branding, but Samsung could do away with the ‘S’ moniker and the numbering system. The company is developing the device under the code-name ‘Beyond.’
Samsung is reportedly preparing to launch Galaxy S10 (or whatever it’s named at launch) earlier than usual. The company traditionally refreshes the Galaxy S line in March-April. But the Galaxy S10 could be unveiled in early January 2019 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. That’s because Samsung is going to launch a foldable phone next year. The foldable device is said to debut at the Mobile World Congress in late February.
