Developer CD Projekt Red – the creators of the Witcher franchise – will reportedly show Cyberpunk 2077 at the E3 2018, which will run from June 12 to June 14. The RPG game was first announced in May 2012.
What Might We See at E3?
The E3 2018 listing shows that the developer will present a role-playing game at the event for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. Though the listing does not mention Cyberpunk 2077, one can assume it to be this game only, unless the developer has secretly been working on a new game in the Witcher series (something that the developer has already denied).
Fans will be hoping for a trailer of the game at the E3 2018 at least. The only video of the game released so far raises more questions than it answers. Thus, a more detailed trailer could serve the purpose of educating the fans on the gameplay and the environment, something that the fans have no idea about considering the game has been in development for six years now.
Recent news and rumors
Though there hasn’t been much details of the game, last month there were speculations that the marketing rights for the game would go to Microsoft. Prior to this, the game was in the news for another reason, after hackers got access to the early designs. The developer, however, was quick to reveal that the hacked designs were “largely unrepresentative of the current vision for the game.”
Recently, Everyeye.it Editor in Chief, Francesco Fossetti, claimed that the developer would hold an hour-long presentation for the Cyberpunk 2077 at E3 2018. In a Facebook post, Fossetti said that he even had a reservation with the developer for the hour-long presentation at the event.

Earlier this year, the official Twitter account of the title made a post, the first time in the past five years or so. The tweet offered no information on the release date or gameplay, rather it contained just one word, “beep.” Though the word made no sense, it at least was proof that the project is still alive.
Release Date
CD Projekt Red first announced the game about six years ago. So, it is high time for the developer to finally release the game. It is now believed that the developer will release the game sometime in early 2019.
Previously, the Polish studio revealed plans to release Cyberpunk 2077 after 2017. The developer also has plans for another unnamed big budget triple-A RPG, which could come before 2021, in time for the PS5 and the next Xbox.
Many believed that the unmanned project that the developer was talking about is The Witcher 4, but Marcin Iwinski, CD Projekt Red co-founder was quick to deny it. “We are a publicly traded company so we cannot comment on that but I can assure you we are not working on another Witcher,” Iwinski said.
About the game
After a short title reveal trailer, the developer shared a two-minute teaser trailer in 2013. Though both teasers didn’t reveal much of the actual game, we have some idea of what the game could be.
Cyberpunk 2077 is an RPG and could bear a minor resemblance to Cyberpunk 2020 – Mike Pondsmith’s tabletop game. As the name suggests, the game is set in 2077, where advanced technologies act as both savior and destroyer of humanity. The game, which is set in the metropolis of Night City, targets mature players and would include some sandbox elements and multiplayer functionality as well. However, the developer has confirmed that it will be a “true RPG” and not a multiplayer shooter.
Further, the developer revealed that Cyberpunk 2077’s scope will be comparatively wider than the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The Night City would give players a chance to explore unique quests, NPCs and gameplay opportunities. During the game, players will be able to acquire special skills and gadgets, such as a digital-recording device – Braindance – to communicate with the city’s inhabitants. Cyberpunk 2077 would run RedEngine 4.0, the latest that powered The Witcher 3 as well.
Platforms Supported
As of now, there has not been any information from the developer over the platforms that the upcoming title would support. However, it is expected to release on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Whether or not it will support Nintendo Switch is still to be seen.
Cyberpunk 2077 is undoubtedly one of the most-awaited games currently, and the credit for this goes to Witcher 3. The massive success of the game has raised the expectations of the players from the developer – CD Projekt RED. The trailer of the game revealed years ago has also fanned the expectations a bit. Hopefully, the expectations will rise even higher after the developer showcases the game at the E3, which is now just days away.
