BlackBerry Key2 Release Date And Pre Orders Announced

Updated on

The TCL BlackBerry Key2 release date and pre orders have been announced, and we’ll all be able to get our hands on the device in mid-July.

The BlackBerry Key2

When the first models of the modern smartphone hit the market, many were wary of typing on a screen rather than using the physical keyboards that had become commonplace. BlackBerry had been a huge presence in the smartphone market and had a reputation for some of the best business phones, but as the smartphone craze took off the company seemed to be left in the dust.

Despite a series of releases with mediocre reception due to the company’s focus on staying on their own proprietary operating system, TCL has taken the reins of the BlackBerry phone brand and has moved it into the modern age of 2018.

With that said, with the upcoming BlackBerry Key2 release date and pre orders, we’ll be in for a bit of nostalgia with a phone that offers a physical keyboard in a sea of similar high-end phones.

With a slimmer design and a larger keyboard, the BlackBerry Key2 improves on the KeyOne without a radical redesign. As expected from a more modern release, the specs have also been improved with the introduction of a Snapdragon 660 chip and RAM and internal storage which have been doubled to 6GB and 64 / 128GB respectively.

The front-facing camera didn’t receive much of an upgrade as it retains the 8-megapixel shooter, but the rear camera has a dual 12-megapixel setup that competes with many smartphones currently on the market. The 4.5-inch screen is a little bit small, but the beefy 3500mAh battery is one of the better capacities on the market which will allow you to use your phone from the time you wake up until you turn in for the evening.

BlackBerry Key2 Release Date and Pre Orders

While the confirmed specifications are well and good, we did have an idea of what we’d see with the phone for at least a few weeks now. What is really exciting was the recent announcement of the BlackBerry Key2 release date and pre orders.

The phone will officially hit the market on July 13th, but pre orders start a couple of weeks earlier on June 29th.

Accompanying the news of the BlackBerry Key2 release date and pre orders was a final confirmed price, with the phone to be available for $649.99 on Amazon and Best Buy once the pre order window goes live.

The increase in price over the KeyOne is roughly $100, and it’s unfortunate but basically a fact of life for smartphones in 2018. With features increasing and technology becoming more expensive, we’re starting to see mobile devices break the $1000 point – and that may become more and more commonplace with high-end flagships as time goes on.

Whether it’s worth shelling out around $650 when the BlackBerry Key2 release date and pre orders come around is up for debate, however, and will depend on what you’re looking for in a phone. It’s relatively expensive given the specifications, but as a phone that will likely be marketed towards business users who need to stay connected on the go, the inability to play high-end games may not be a detractor in the least.
