The BlackBerry Key2 is definitely a niche device. In a sea of smartphones that are doing the same thing, this new phone from Blackberry offers a new feature we haven’t seen in quite a few years: the physical keyboard.
Many couldn’t imagine the transition to typing on a screen as we got used to physical keys with which to text and browse the web, but now that smartphones have been ubiquitous for quite some time, it’s clear that it may be difficult to go back to our roots and swap out a flat screen for one with actual keys to press.
With that said, there’s certainly a demand for this sort of device – even if the audience is relatively small. As the only phone with a physical keyboard this year, many are willing to pay the BlackBerry Key2 price in order to have access to a phone that gives them a throwback to the days before the iPhone.

There’s a decent amount going on with the BlackBerry Key2. While the primary attraction with the phone is the physical keyboard, there are also two 12-megapixel cameras on the rear of the device and the phone will be powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor.
The Key2 has a 4.5-inch screen which may feel a little bit small when compared to modern devices, but the physical keyboard does take up a decent amount of space and makes it difficult to keep the gigantic display we’ve seen from a lot of high-end flagships.
The keys themselves appear to be an upgrade over the KeyOne, being larger and more tactile which should make learning how to type on a physical keyboard once again a little bit easier.
With the cameras, you should be able to take quality shots that are quite impressive, but you’ll, unfortunately, miss out on the ability to take portrait selfies – a major detractor from an otherwise excellent device.
There are also a variety of keyboard shortcuts that you can use to navigate the phone and increase efficiency, but with 52 total combinations, it may be difficult to figure everything out from the beginning. Still, those who are willing to put the time in to learn how to use the features may find it a very efficient device that may even be more efficient than a normal smartphone.
As far as the actual benchmark tests go, it appears that the performance is lacking compared to some high-end smartphones, but the BlackBerry Key2 price may still be well worth it for those who aren’t looking to game on their device. BlackBerry phones have long been regarded as the go-to device of the business world, and it appears that that is what the Key2 is hoping to accomplish.
As more and more people get their hands on the device, we should have a clearer picture of how it stands up against the competition, but at the same time there’s very little that we can compare it to. While the BlackBerry Key2 price might put it in the same realm as some high-end phones, it may be a toss-up as to whether the physical keyboard is a worthy substitute we see with phones like the Samsung Galaxy or iPhone 8.

In the UK and Europe, the device will debut at 579 Pounds and 579 Euros respectively.
Availability
There hasn’t been a solid posting on the exact release date of the phone worldwide, but the company has stated that the phone will release in Canada sometime in July. We anticipate that the Key2 will be available worldwide sometime around that point as well, but until we get a little bit closer to the release date it looks like we’ll be left guessing.
