OnePlus 6 Colors, Super Slo-mo, Heart Rate Sensor Teased

The much-awaited OnePlus 6 flagship is set to be unveiled on May 16 in London. OnePlus and the rumor mill have already revealed almost all the details about the device. Ahead of the official launch, OnePlus’s India brand ambassador Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan shared a picture that shows two different OnePlus 6 colors. Mr Bachchan was quick to remove the tweet, but you can still see the cached version of his tweet here.

Amitabh Bachchan’s tweet contained two photos of himself with OnePlus CEO Pete Lau. In one of the photos, the actor can be seen taking a selfie with Lau. The other photo shows Pete Lau holding a white OnePlus 6 and Bachchan holding the black color variant of the device. The actor said he was looking forward to attending the OnePlus 6 launch event on May 17th. After the London unveiling on May 16, the Chinese company will hold launch events in Mumbai and Beijing on May 17th. Further pop-up events will be held across eight Indian cities on May 21 and 22.

Besides confirming the black and white OnePlus 6 colors, Bachchan’s tweet also confirmed the phone’s design. The reflections on the black model suggest that its rear panel would be made out of glass, probably to facilitate wireless charging. OnePlus has already told fans that it would ditch the aluminum back for a glass panel. It’s unclear whether the white version would have a sandstone finish, which is more durable than glass.

Other rumored OnePlus 6 colors include a new shade of dark blue similar to last year’s Nokia 8. There will also be an Avengers: Infinity War edition of the handset with Avengers branding and some pre-loaded content for the movie’s fans. The Avengers edition would cost a little more than the regular model, though it will have the same technical specifications.

The phone has a vertically-aligned dual camera setup and a fingerprint sensor on the back panel. The rear panel appears to curve around the edges similar to Samsung’s Galaxy S9. Amitabh Bachchan also tweeted a selfie with Pete Lau that was taken using the OnePlus 6.

Separately, OnePlus has posted a teaser video on Twitter, suggesting that the upcoming flagship would come with the Super Slo-mo camera feature. The teaser doesn’t show the OnePlus 6; instead it offers a peek into a slo-mo footage taken using the next-gen flagship. The tweet reads, “Let’s slow down time.” The upcoming phone will reportedly have a combination of 20MP and 16MP lenses on the back.

The Super Slo-mo feature has been around for quite a while on smartphones such as Samsung’s Galaxy S9 Plus and Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium. Samsung’s latest flagship can capture slow-motion videos at 960 frames per second and 720p resolution. The Galaxy S9 Plus can stretch a 0.2-second video into a 6-second slow motion footage. One drawback of the slo-mo feature is that it drains a lot of battery and processing power.

The company also teased a heart rate monitor for OnePlus 6 on Chinese microblogging site Weibo. The Weibo post shows a cardiogram with the graph mentioning the number ‘6.’ Samsung has been offering the heart rate sensor on its flagship smartphones for a long time.

It’s pretty much certain that OnePlus 6 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset. The phone is said to be available in 6GB and 8GB RAM options, and 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB of internal storage. The device would pack a 3,300mAh battery, and run OxygenOS on top of Android 8.1 Oreo. According to recent leaks, the OnePlus 6 would feature a 6.28-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a bezel-less design.

OnePlus has already confirmed that the upcoming flagship would have a notch similar to the iPhone X. The company says the notch would help it expand the screen space. People who don’t like the top cutout will be able to hide it via software. The company claims to have tested the notch with top 1,000 apps in the Google Play Store to ensure a smooth user experience. It is expected to retain the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Other OnePlus 6 features include a faster and more secure Face Unlock for facial recognition, an updated Dash Charging technology, and water-resistance. The Chinese company has been teasing for the last several weeks that OnePlus 6 would deliver incredibly fast speed. It is expected to be one of the fastest smartphones this year. We will find out soon whether there will be more OnePlus 6 colors besides the black, white, and blue.

OnePlus will reportedly increase the price with its upcoming flagship. The OnePlus 5T was priced at $499 in the United States. A new report suggests that OnePlus 6 would cost INR 36,999 ($556) for the base model in India. The 8GB/128GB model will likely be priced at INR 39,999 ($601). By comparison, the OnePlus 5T was launched in India last year at a starting price of INR 32,999. There is no word on the 256GB model’s pricing.
