Days Gone release date, news, trailer and gameplay

Updated on

Even though there are more zombie-focused games available on the market than we can count, Sony promises a never-before-seen adventure with its new title Days Gone with a release date to be in 2019. Let’s see what Sony has prepared so far.

Days Gone was initially stated to come in 2018, but that Days Gone release date slipped to 2019. The release window for the game was somewhere in the  fall or at the holiday season. Nevertheless, Sony has moved the game’s debut to a Q1/Q2 2019 time. However, if we consider that most games that miss the Christmas season end up being released at Easter or early spring, it seems that we’ll probably play Days Gone in March or April. There’s no confirmation that Sony is going to talk about Days Gone on this year’s E3, but many fans do hope that the final release date would be mentioned and that we will get to see more of the gameplay.

When it comes to the story of the game, it doesn’t differ much from other dystopian, apocalyptic games. As a result of a vast pandemic that took place in the world, a huge proportion of humanity was wiped out creating zombies which are known as Freakers in this particular title. This apocalyptic event had occurred two years before the game starts. There are not many human survivors in the world, and aside from them, there are some feral animals as well as animals affected by disease. The main character is an anti-hero bounty hunter, a biker known as Deacon who is trying to survive in this new cruel world that he hasn’t known or seen in the way that it is now.

The game was developed by SIE Bend Studio, while Sony is the publisher. With that in mind, given that the Days Gone release date is coming up, many people who grew fond of the game are wondering whether the game will be available on other platforms in the future as well, such as PC or Xbox. To the disappointment of many, it won’t. The same as the overly-popular game God of War which is a PS4 exclusive, the same goes for Days Gone. If nothing else, the platform availability for this game is certain. Perhaps in the future, the long-hyped game could come to PC via Sony’s PS Now streaming service, but don’t get your hopes up too high.

Even though the game will likely come in early 2019, nothing has been said about a Days Gone collector’s edition yet. Hopefully Sony works on this release too. The game was initially revealed at E3 2016, which is almost two years ago. At the time, Sony Bend talked about the upcoming title on the PlayStation blog.

“This is a brutal world, where everyone and everything is struggling to survive, but hopefully, the trailer shows that the game is about more than that. It’s about desperation, hope, transformation, loss, madness, discovery, friendship, exploration, brotherhood, regret and love. In the end, Days Gone is about what makes us human. It’s about how even when confronted with such enormous tragedy we find a reason to live. Hope never dies.”

As about E3 2018, Sony’s presentation will be held on June 11 at 6PM PT / 9PM ET / 2AM (June 12) BST. On the PlayStation Blogcast, chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Shawn Layden, said that the presentation will provide “exclusive looks and deep dives on four” titles: Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsuhima, Spider-Man, and The Last Of Us Part II.

There were several trailers that provided an insight in the gameplay and Deacon’s adventures in the post-apocalyptic world. The original Days Gone PS4 gameplay reveal allowed the fans a look at the Freaker monsters from the game and the huge swarms of hundreds of them in the same environment, as well as unique game mechanics used to confront them, barricades, explosives and fire. Another two subsequent Days Gone PS4 demos showed how things change in the open world that the game focuses on. Basically, the time of day and weather conditions pretty much affect the outcome of the gameplay. The first demo shows an enemy camp where Deacon lets monsters eat the enemies alive. The second video shows that there are snowy, frigid conditions which affect the numbers and strength of the Freakers.

On the other hand, the latest Days Gone PS4 gameplay reveals the magic of the open world, with a guided tour that talks about the missions that take place near the Pacific Northwest setting.

Deacon, who is the main character is described by Sony as “a drifter and bounty hunter who would rather risk the dangers of the broken road than live in one of the ‘safe’ wilderness encampments.”

Are you slightly disappointed that the Days Gone release date was moved to 2019? Do you think there will be a mention of the game on this year’s E3? Let us know!
