OnePlus 6 Release Date And India Price Revealed

Updated on

We know that OnePlus 6 release is just around the corner. The Chinese vendor has been teasing its upcoming flagship for quite a while, but it hasn’t yet confirmed the OnePlus 6 release date. Now Indian financial publication Moneycontrol has learned from its sources that OnePlus 6 would go on sale in India on May 18th. The report claims OnePlus will also bump up the base price with the upcoming model.

India is among the first markets to get the latest OnePlus devices. So, we can expect OnePlus 6 to go on sale in other key markets on or around May 18. OnePlus 6 is said to have a starting price of INR 39,999 ($605). The higher storage models could cost well above INR 45,000 in the country. That’s a steep price hike compared to OnePlus 5T, which costs INR 32,999 for the 6GB RAM variant and INR 37,999 for the 8GB RAM model.

There have been speculations in the past that OnePlus could increase the prices with this year’s flagship model. But such a high price tag could alienate even loyal OnePlus fans. The Chinese vendor built its business by offering premium specs at mid-range prices. Of course, we will get to know the official pricing details only at the time of launch. An earlier report had claimed that the OnePlus 6 would cost INR 34,000 for the base model and INR 39,000 for the 8GB/128GB variant. There will also be a 256GB storage version, which would cost even higher.

Coming back to the OnePlus 6 release date, other reports have indicated that the phone could be unveiled later this month or in early May. The Chinese company has announced a partnership with Marvel Studios to launch an Avengers: Infinity Wars-themed OnePlus 6 in select markets such as India. Since the movie is releasing on April 27, it makes sense for the company to release the device around the same time to capitalize on the hype.

Last year, OnePlus had partnered with Walt Disney to launch a Star Wars edition of OnePlus 5T. The Avengers-themed model would have the same technical specifications as the regular one, but it will have the Avengers branding and some preloaded content for Avengers fans.

OnePlus has revealed tons of details about its next-gen flagship in the last few weeks. Chief executive Pete Lau told fans in a forum post that OnePlus 6 would be powered by up to 8GB RAM and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor. The device would offer up to 256GB of internal storage, he said. According to the rumor mill, OnePlus 6 would be available in Black, White, and Blue color options.

The device would feature a bezel-less AMOLED display with 1080p resolution and an iPhone X-like notch. The notch will allow for more screen real estate on the phone, but not everyone likes the top cutout. So, users will have the option to hide the notch via software. OnePlus claims to have tested the top cutout with top 1000 Android apps in the Google Play Store to ensure a smooth user experience.

Earlier this week, OnePlus teased on Twitter that the upcoming flagship would be water-resistant. The Chinese company posted a video with the caption “Don’t you just hate it when you have to stop using your phone when it rains? So do we.” OnePlus has also teased in the past that the Alert Slider would get a new “Slide to Focus” feature, which would probably be related to the camera.

Talking about the camera, OnePlus 6 would have a vertically aligned dual camera system on the back. It would consist of a 20MP lens and a 16MP sensor. The device would get a 16MP camera on the front for selfies. Case renders shared by Olixar show that the LED flash and the pill-shaped fingerprint scanner will be placed below the camera setup. Olixar has already started accepting pre-orders for OnePlus 6 cases that are priced between $7.4 and $35.49. The case maker has a history of accurately leaking the design of unannounced smartphones.

The OnePlus 6 would retain the 3.5mm headphone jack. However, the company could launch OnePlus Bullets Wireless earbuds along with the device. The wireless earbuds were recently spotted on a Bluetooth certification site. We don’t have to wait too long as OnePlus 6 release date is just around the corner.

Ahead of OnePlus 6 launch, the Chinese company has sought the suggestion of its loyal fans to create OnePlus 6 advertisements. OnePlus has invited fans to offer ideas for promoting the upcoming flagship. You can share your ideas by tweeting with the hashtag #NeverSettleFilm, commenting on this YouTube video, on the official forum, or on their Facebook page. OnePlus said major design changes such as the Gaming DND Mode that stops notifications while playing games were the result of user feedback.
