OnePlus 6 Launch Date: May 16 In London, May 17 In China And India

Updated on

“The Speed You Need.” That’s the title of the OnePlus 6 launch event. The Chinese company has been teasing its upcoming flagship for the last several weeks. Now it has confirmed the OnePlus 6 launch date. Pretty much everything is already known about the device, but we will finally be able to see what the OnePlus 6 looks and feels like in real. The company will first hold an event in London, followed by separate events in China and India.

The OnePlus 6 launch event will take place on May 16 in London. The London press conference is set to begin at 5PM BST. If you want to attend the event in person, OnePlus will be selling Early Bird tickets for the press conference starting 8AM local time on April 25. More than a thousand tickets are available for purchase. The Early Bird tickets are going to cost £16/€18/$21 until 8PM BST on Friday, April 27.

After 8:01 BST on Friday, the ticket prices are going to rise to £30/€34/$41. Fans who buy the ticket, attend the event, and purchase the shiny new OnePlus 6 are going to receive a mystery gift along with the phone. Last year, OnePlus sold tickets for the OnePlus 5T event for $40, and offered attendees a $40 coupon for the device, event T-shirt, and a OnePlus bag along with other things. The smartphone vendor has promised “bigger and better” things this time around.

The India event is taking place at the Dome at NSCI in Mumbai at 3PM IST. The China press conference will be held in Beijing at 10AM CST. Indian fans can buy the event tickets for INR 999 starting 10AM on May 8th. Those attending the event will get a OnePlus voucher worth INR 999, a OnePlus bag, notebook, and T-shirt.

The India event will be live streamed via OnePlus India’s Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube channels. Amazon India has already put up a registration page for OnePlus 6, where you can opt-in to get notified when the phone goes on sale. Amazon is OnePlus’s exclusive online retail partner in the country.

The phone is said to go on sale on May 21, just days after the official unveiling. A reader told GSM Arena that the Chinese company had sent emails to select OnePlus device owners that OnePlus 6 sales would start on May 21. The said reader was selected for a trial as part of OnePlus’s new LAB program. As part of the program, the selected buyers will get to use OnePlus 6 before the official launch. They will also be allowed to write community reviews of the upcoming device.

OnePlus has officially confirmed most of the specifications of OnePlus 6. The device will be powered by Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 845 processor. The most powerful variant would pack a huge 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, though there would also be a 6GB RAM variant. OnePlus chief executive Pete Lau told fans earlier this week that OnePlus 6 would come with a glass back to create a “sense of value” and give users a “premium hand-feel.”

The one logical reason OnePlus would replace the sturdier aluminum with a glass back panel is to offer wireless charging support, though Lau did not confirm the presence of wireless charging on OnePlus 6. The upcoming flagship will also be water- and dust-resistant. In terms of design, it would have the same footprint as OnePlus 5T, but will have a vertically-aligned dual camera on the back. The LED flash and the fingerprint scanner will be placed below the camera.

Leaked case renders suggest the OnePlus 6 would pack a huge 6.28-inch bezel-less AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution. It would have a display notch similar to the iPhone X, but users will be able to hide the notch via software. The phone would sport a 16-megapixel and a 20-megapixel camera on the back. There will be a 16-megapixel selfie camera. It is said to pack a 3,450mAh battery with Dash Charge technology.

The OnePlus 6 will in all likelihood retain the 3.5mm headphone jack. It would run Android 8.1 Oreo-based OxygenOS UI skin. OnePlus will optimize the software to deliver maximum performance and energy efficiency to ensure that the phone lives up to the “The Speed You Need” launch event title.

The Chinese company recently partnered with Marvel Studios to launch an Avengers: Infinity War-themed OnePlus 6 variant. It would offer the same specs as the regular OnePlus 6, but would boast Avengers branding and get some pre-loaded content for fans. Just like the Star Wars edition of OnePlus 5T, the Avengers-themed OnePlus 6 would be sold at a slight premium compared to the regular model.
