With the launch of the iPhone X, we saw the introduction of the signature “Notch” – a massive design change that houses the innovative FaceID technology. It appears as if the Huawei P20 Pro is following suit – and it may actually do it better. Let’s take a look at the Huawei P20 Pro vs iPhone X and see which phone is the better buy.

Huawei is a relative newcomer to the smartphone scene – at least in the West – and their phones have failed to gain traction in a market that is currently dominated by the likes of Samsung and Apple. When comparing the Huawei P20 Pro vs iPhone X, however, it’s clear that the P20 Pro has a lot going for it – even if it might not be able to snag a significant portion of the sales from Apple.

As mentioned above, both phones in this Huawei P20 Pro vs iPhone X comparison feature the signature Notch at the top of the phone. Where the phones differ, however, is that the Huawei P20 pro offers the ability to turn off the Notch in the design settings – a feature that is noticeably lacking on the iPhone X. While Apple forces people to use the Notch, the Huawei P20 Pro allows you to turn off the feature, causing the screen to the left and right of the Notch to go black – adding what amounts to an artificial bezel to the top of the phone. The Notch houses the camera and other technology required for face scanning, so it’s a necessary part of the device. It may not be the solution people were looking for, but considering the actual implementation of the Notch is a hardware decision rather than a software one, this is a unique feature that gives Huawei the upper edge when comparing the Huawei P20 Pro vs iPhone X.

The Notch is the most notable aspect of the design, and other than that the Huawei P20 Pro vs iPhone X battle is pretty evenly matched in terms of design. With a high-end premium look that looks expensive and features a sleek, minimalist design, you’ll have a phone that looks good no matter which side of the aisle you fall on.

The Huawei P20 Pro vs iPhone X battle appears to be rather one-sided when it comes to the camera – although we’ll need to get our hands on the P20 Pro to really make sure.

While the iPhone X introduced something brand new in the form of FaceID, the Huawei P20 Pro is introducing the first three lens camera for a smartphone – with a whopping 40 megapixels for the rear camera. While the iPhone X camera has been praised for the high-quality images, we expect the Huawei P20 Pro to be even better. When compared to the 12 MP that we see on the iPhone X, the capabilities just don’t seem to be there from a technical standpoint.

Overall, while both phones will offer great photos, we believe Huawei wins the battle when it comes to the Huawei P20 Pro vs iPhone X.

While design and camera are important factors to many people, the fact remains that your phone has to be speedy and able to roll with the punches if you’re to have an excellent smartphone experience. The Huawei P20 Pro vs iPhone X comparison is going to be a little hard to compare until we have our hands on the P20 Pro, due to both manufacturers using their own proprietary processor. We can anticipate that the performance will be comparable, however, with the Huawei P20 Pro having some key advantages in a number of areas.

With the Huawei P20 Pro, you’re looking at 6GB of RAM which is a good amount higher than the 3GB we saw with the iPhone X. The P20 Pro should last all day more reliably as well, with a 4000 mAh battery vs the iPhone X at a 2700 mAh capacity.

The iPhone X does come out ahead when it comes to facial recognition technology, due to the fact that FaceID is far more advanced than anything Huawei has shown thus far, but Huawei also includes a traditional fingerprint scanner for those who would rather not use the Face Unlock feature – an inclusion that is missing from Apple’s device.

Overall, we have to say that the Huawei P20 Pro vs iPhone X battle swings in favor of Huawei’s new phone. While we won’t be able to say for sure until more people start to get their hands on the device, it seems like a superior phone – at least from looking at the specifications. With that said, there are some personal preferences that need to be accounted for. Many don’t enjoy the skin that Huawei puts over the stock UI, and others still prefer the iOS operating system.

At the end of the day, both phones are fast and capable, but Huawei has delivered a phone that truly brings us into the next generation in 2018.
