Galaxy Note 9 Release Date May Be Earlier Than We Thought

Updated on

Although the Galaxy S9 has just released, many are looking forward to the next entry in the Galaxy Note line. It appears as if the Galaxy Note 9 release date might be earlier than we saw with the S8, considering that Samsung has already started on two different firmware paths for the upcoming phone.

Galaxy Note 9 Release Date

Samsung’s flagships are some of the most popular Android smartphones around, and the mobile world is eagerly anticipating the Galaxy Note 9 release date in hopes that it will bring something new to the table. While the Galaxy S9 is shaping up to be an excellent phone, it’s clear that there’s not a whole lot going on in terms of new features. Samsung decided to focus on the camera with the S9, even going so far as to market the phone with the tagline “The Camera. Reimagined. It’s true that we’ve seen some massive improvements over an already excellent camera, but outside of the better camera specifications and an increase in power, there isn’t a lot that’s very exciting about the S9.

Many are hoping the Galaxy Note 9 release date will usher in something new for Samsung flagships that have been looking largely the same for the last few generations. The initial news regarding the Note 9 doesn’t seem to suggest we will see that massive departure, but we’ll at least see the Galaxy Note 9 release date sooner than we did for the S8.

Two build numbers for the new phone – N960FXXE0ARB7 and N960FXXU0ARC5 – are already making the rounds online, and we saw a similar firmware leak for the Note 8 last year. However, the difference between these two leaks is that the one for this upcoming generation comes two weeks earlier than with the S8 – suggesting that we could see a Galaxy Note 9 release date in the beginning of August, especially since we saw the Galaxy S9 release sooner than we saw with the S8.

Stiff Competition

A Galaxy Note 9 release date being pushed up a couple of weeks might not seem like a big deal, but it may give it a little bit more of a head start when it comes to competing with Apple. When it comes to luxury smartphones, the big names – at least in the West – are Apple and Samsung. By taking steps to be a step ahead in terms of release date, the company may be able to get a headstart on sales and come out ahead of Apple – a win they desperately need after the iPhone X became one of the fastest selling phones in history. With Apple rumored to be bringing their innovative FaceID technology to the trio of iPhones set to release later this year, Samsung may need all of the help they can get with this upcoming Galaxy Note 9 release date.

As mentioned above, the past couple of generations of Galaxy flagships have played it safe. With the Note 8, it made sense to be cautious with the release – especially considering the fact that the Note 7 literally exploded. With the Galaxy Note 9 release date, however, Samsung is two generations removed from that fiasco and can afford to take a few more risks. Considering the little news we’ve gotten thus far, it seems like the phone will be a decent upgrade over the Note 8, as is to be expected from any new flagship. But whether we see any sort of new features that make it stand out from the sea of other high-end flagships remains to be seen.

Tech Specs

We do have some information on the Galaxy Note 9 and its specifications. We expect that the Note 9 will sport the same Infinity Display 2.0 that we saw with the S9 and S9 Plus, with a tougher frame and cover glass. While Samsung is rumored to be developing an under-display fingerprint scanner, we don’t expect that the technology will make it into this generation. Rather, we’ll see a more traditional fingerprint scanner placement on the rear of the phone – albeit in a little less of an awkward position than we saw with the Galaxy Note 8.

One of the primary concerns of any smartphone buyer is the power and capabilities of the phone, and the Galaxy Note 9 should not disappoint. The Snapdragon 845 is the latest processor from Qualcomm, and it will be lending unprecedented speed and performance to the Galaxy Note 9 in the United States. Internationally, Samsung will likely use their Exynos 9810 chip – a processor with comparable power to the latest and greatest from Qualcomm. Backing up that beefy processor will be 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage as the starting memory combo.

As far as the camera goes, it’s safe to say that we’ll probably see an implementation that’s pretty similar to what we’ve seen with the Galaxy S9. With the company just recently doing a revamp, it would be strange to see something dramatically different so soon. Initial reviews of the Galaxy S9 and the camera have been positive, so a Galaxy S9 release date that brings us more of the same may actually be a good thing in this category.

Expect the Galaxy Note 9 release date to be sometime in August, and to bring an upgraded experience of what we’ve seen in this current generation.
