Google To Launch Three Variations Of Pixel 3

Although the Google’s new flagships won’t release for quite some time, a recent rumor suggests that the company will be following in Apple’s footsteps with the release of three new handsets with the Google Pixel 3 generation.

So far, Google has been incredibly secretive regarding the release of their upcoming phones, but rumors suggest the Google Pixel 3 display will be taller and edge-to-edge, rivaling the new flagships from competitor Samsung. While Google has seen some good success with the Pixel and Pixel XL, the fact remains that Samsung remains king of the Android smartphone scene. By emulating the successful aspects of the Samsung S and Note lines, Google may be able to sway a more significant portion of the Android customer base and convince them to try something new.

The most recent leak regarding the Google Pixel 3 display as well as the three new models of the new flagships come from the company’s Mountain View HQ, according to Droid-Life, and suggests three new Pixel handsets codenamed Albacore, Blueline, and Crosshatch. The Albacore and Crosshatch are slated to be expensive high-end models that will serve as direct competitors to the iPhone X.

The report that gives the information regarding the new Google Pixel 3 display and the three upcoming models is from the same trusted source that revealed the Pixel 2 XL, so it’s likely this information is legitimate. Keep in mind, however, that any information regarding upcoming devices should be taken with a grain of salt. Until we get an official reveal from Google, the fact remains that all of this information is subject to change.

So far, that’s all we really know about the upcoming phones. In addition to emulating Samsung’s success with the Google Pixel 3, the company’s release schedule seems quite similar to that of Apple. With two premium phones à la the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X and the more affordable model like the base iPhone 8, Google is releasing three new phones that are directly analogous to the recent offerings from Apple. What remains to be seen, however, is if Google can innovate in a way that will make their phones a more attractive buy.

Can Google Compete With Apple?

Where Apple saw great success in this generation was with a product that offered something we haven’t seen before. The iPhone X gave us FaceID, which was an innovative way to unlock the phone that adapts dynamically to changes in its user’s appearance – such as a new pair of glasses or the growth of facial hair. While the iPhone X isn’t the first implementation of facial recognition, it’s certainly one of the most sophisticated. By offering something unique and combining that with the company’s premium aesthetics and powerful specifications, the iPhone X was a smash hit with consumers.

The Google Pixel 3 is reminiscent of Samsung, but will Google follow up on the success of Apple as well? While they’re releasing three different phones to match Apple’s three different flagships, they will have to provide the same level of quality and innovation if they’d like to capture the attention of an increasingly fickle smartphone market.

While Google did see some great success with the Pixel and the Pixel 2, a Google Pixel 3 display update is probably not going to be enough to compete with flagships from more established manufacturers. While Google has been controlling the Android operating system for quite some time, the truth is that they’re relatively new to actually making smartphones. Despite their incredible size and resources, it may be an uphill climb for the tech giant if they’d like to compete in the big leagues with the likes of Apple and Samsung.
