The Google Pixel 2 XL has been eagerly anticipated since its announcement, but the release has been plagued by various issues – the most recent being the Google Pixel 2 XL voice bug in many messaging applications.

Google Pixel 2 XL Voice Bug

As Google’s latest flagship, there was a lot riding on the Google Pixel 2 XL. While the original Pixels did perform well, there was definitely room for improvement. As Google’s freshman attempt, the Pixel was astonishingly well-designed, but it failed to capture a significant portion of a market that remains largely dominated by Apple and Samsung. The successor to the original Pixel improves upon the original overall, but it has shipped with a number of bugs that detract from the overall experience.

The Google Pixel 2 XL voice bug is mostly present in a variety of popular messaging apps, and it affects the volume of the voice recordings. User reports claim that while the phone can record voice clips with no issues, the volume in messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Google Allso, and Telegram is extremely low. The recipient will barely be able to hear the recording – even if their volume were to be set to max – which indicates that it’s indeed a Google Pixel 2 XL problem rather than a fault of the messaging apps themselves. The problem occurs on both speakers and headphones, so it’s also not a problem with a specific audio format.

Google Pixel 2 XL Voice Bug Fix

It’s currently unclear why exactly the limited volume levels are affecting these specific messaging apps, but Google has reported that they’re looking into the issue, so we expect a solution sooner rather than later. Community manager Orrin reconfirmed that Google is working to address the Google Pixel 2 XL voice bug, and that more information and bug reports will continue to be collected privately in order to understand what exactly is going wrong and implement a fix. While users themselves have tried to come up with various fixes, so far there hasn’t been any luck in addressing the Google Pixel 2 XL voice bug. Uninstalling and reinstalling the messaging apps doesn’t fix the situation, so we’ll likely have to wait on Google to patch out this annoying bug.

While the Google Pixel 2 XL voice bug is an annoyance, it thankfully doesn’t affect the main audio functions of the phone – like in a call, for example. A problem with call volume would be much more significant, but considering the prevalence of messaging apps like WhatsApp, there are a number of users that are inconvenienced by the present lack of a fix.

Combined with other problems such as screen burn-in, headphone adapter issues, bootloader unlock issues, and random restarting, the Google Pixel 2 XL launch has been far more messy than the tech giant had hoped. Quick fixes to these issues are necessary if the company wants to salvage their reputation and keep their Pixel 2 XL from burning out.
