Another Chinese Android-Based iPhone X Clone Releasing

Updated on

The iPhone has always been the preferred choice of the copycats, and the latest offering from Apple is no different. We have already seen one iPhone X clone appear last month, and now one more copycat has emerged, this time from Oukitel – a Chinese manufacturer.

Oukitel U18 – very similar to the iPhone X

The first iPhone X clone arrived last month, in the form of the Leagoo S9. The handset successfully copied the iPhone X’s rounded corners and notch, creating something that could easily be mistaken for the iPhone X at first glance. Leagoo is a relatively lesser known major brand in China, but Oukitel is a known mid-tier brand.

The Oukitel U18 is the first device from the Chinese brand for 2018. The handset features an iPhone X-like display design, but with an aspect ratio of 21:9. This new aspect ratio makes this iPhone X clone slimmer and easier to grip with one hand. The Android-based Oukitel U18 comes with a 5.85″ HD+ display with 1512×720 resolution, 4GB of RAM and internal storage of 64GB.

The handset has the company’s branding on the back. It also has a rear-facing fingerprint scanner, and a dual camera setup on the back, notes AndroidHeadlines. The handset is made of metal, and will possibly be powered by one of MediaTek’s processors.

The Oukitel U18 could easily pass as an iPhone X clone at first glance. However, a closer look reveals that the rounded corners look squared-off, the notch is of the wrong shape, and the display does not extend to the bottom, notes 9to5mac.

The Chinese company is even promoting its latest handset as featuring an iPhone X-like design.

“At the first month of 2018, Oukitel is releasing a new smartphone Oukitel U18, of which is said to be next killer of Oukitel. It will feature iPhone X-like display design, but gets a new 21:9 aspect ratio, making it slimmer and more comfortable to hold in hand,” the company says, according to 9to5mac.

As of now, there is no information on the price and availability date of the Oukitel U18. However, according to Oukitel, the handset will enter the production stage by the end of January, and the first unit is already being tested. So, it can be expected to release soon. More information on the handset can be gathered from Oukitel’s official Facebook page. The Chinese company also released a promo video of the Oukitel U18.

First iPhone X clone

Talking of the first major iPhone X clone, the Leagoo S9 is an under $300 phone. The handset features a MediaTek P40 processor, 128GB of storage and 6GB RAM. Further, it has a 5.85-inch AMOLED panel, a pair of 16MP sensors and a fingerprint sensor on the back.

Major differences between the Leagoo S9 and the iPhone X are the S9’s physical buttons on the right, a rear-facing fingerprint sensor, and slightly taller bottom bezel. And, of course, there is a Leagoo logo on the back.

Copycats have long been imitating Apple products, including laptops that look visually similar to the MacBook. In December, Apple won a trademark case in Europe against Xiaomi, restricting the latter from registering the “Mi Pad” as a trademark in the EU. The name is deemed too similar to Apple’s iPad.
