We’ve seen claims just days ago about the fact that Apple setting up to release a cheaper 2018 MacBook Air, and a new report seems to add more credence to that theory.

It’s important to keep in mind that this report comes from Digitimes – a website with a questionable track record when it comes to reporting on upcoming technology. However, this report does seem to back up what we’ve heard previously, which may indicate that Digitimes is right on the money this time around.

According to this new report, Apple is set to release a new 2018 MacBook Air in the second quarter of this year – a more solid release date than we had had previously, with other reports generally just giving us a release date of some time this year.

Where the reports do differ, however, is the expected price. While KGI Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested last week that we’d see a price for the 2018 MacBook Air between $799 and $899 – a price point that would make the Apple computer more accessible to more people – Digitimes apparently believes that there will be a more expensive price at close to $1000. The outlet does believe that a Retina Display may increase the price, but the $999 price does contradict information suggested by more historically reliable outlets.

The 1.3-inch 2018 MacBook Air panels will feature the same resolution as the 13.3-inch MacBook Pro at 2560 x 1600. LG will be responsible for providing the panel, with reports suggesting that the panels will ship in April with the launch of the 2018 MacBook Air entering production at the end of May or the beginning of June. After the start of production, it shouldn’t be too much longer until we have our hands on the newest revamp of Apple’s popular laptop.

The reporting outlet also believes that we’ll see both new iPad models in the second quarter as well as new iPad Pro models in the second half of the year. Other rumors and leaks have confirmed as much, so it’s possible that this Digitimes leak is more reliable than they’ve proven previously.

As for what exactly we’ll see from the 2018 MacBook Air, there’s not much information floating around outside of a price point and a potential release date. Other than the resolution upgrade, we should expect more of the same from Apple. We’ll likely see an increase in power, but revolutionary features will likely be reserved for the iPhone line – at least for now. As Apple’s most successful market by far, it’s no wonder that the company is focusing their attention on mobile devices. However, the 2018 MacBook Air will still gain traction as one of the top light and portable laptops on the market when we see it later this year.

We’ll have to wait for an announcement or more reliable leaks before we can be truly sure whether the 2018 MacBook Air revamp is really happening, but considering that we’ve seen multiple reports from different outlets at this point, it’s looking more likely than not.
