Glassdoor Names Facebook Inc As Best Place To Work In 2018

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is named the best place to work in 2018, according to a list released by Glassdoor, a career listing and employee review site. The list includes expected names such as Bain & Company, Google, Apple, and 40 newcomers as well, such as Blizzard Entertainment, and wireless carrier T-Mobile.

What makes Facebook the best place to work?

Lori Goler, Facebook’s vice president of people, and is also in-charge of the company’s global HR organization, said, she is excited about Facebook leading the Glassdoor list as it is based on the reviews and feedback of the employees.

“One of the themes in the reviews is people get great feedback here; they get coaching and room to learn and grow,” she said.

Glassdoor posted three reviews by Facebook employees. A Facebook software engineer, who works at the headquarters in Menlo Park, California, stated that the company gives the opportunity to build a product that billions of people use across the globe. Further, the employee stated that there are other great benefits such as transport, bonuses, food, environment, health benefits and so on. The employee also talked positively about the workplace environment.

Another Facebook employee, a data scientist also located at headquarters said, “It’s great working here. There’s nowhere else I’d rather be. You are working with very smart people who are energized and believe in the work they are doing.”

This data scientist echoed the thoughts of the first employee stating that Facebook encourages and rewards good work.

According to Goler, Facebook gives importance to every job and encourages every employee to work in their full capacity.

“When you put those things together and do it at scale, it’s a pretty magical combination,” she said.

About the Glassdoor list

Glassdoor rankings are based on feedback from numerous current and former employees in eight categories, including career opportunities, compensation and benefits, company rating, benefits, culture and values, senior management, recommendation worthiness, work/life balance and six months business outlook.

In its annual recap of the survey, Glassdoor stated that the rankings are based on self-reported answers from employees between Nov. 1, 2016 and Oct. 22, 2017. To make it to the list, companies must garner at least a 3.5 (on 5) rating, as well as, 2.5 for “workplace factor ratings.” Facebook secured 4.6, and was named as the best large company for employees in 2018. Google came in at fifth place. LinkedIn, at twenty-first place, was the only other social network to make it to the top 100.

In 2016, Airbnb took the first place, but it failed to make it to the list this year. Similarly Twitter, which topped the list in 2014, was nowhere to be seen this year. A total of 19 technology companies made it to the top 50 companies to work with, compared to 20 last year, and 21 the year before that.

Facebook has made it to the list of best place to work every year since the ranking was first introduced about ten years back (winning in 2011 and 2013). Google has made it to the list all ten years, and Apple is the other tech company to do that also. However, Apple dropped 48 spots this year (to 84), and it would have been ousted if Glassdoor had not expanded the list to 100, according to VentureBeat.
