Details of the OnePlus 5T had been rumored for a long time until the OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, teased it in a blog post, which revealed that the company is not getting rid of the 3.5mm headphone jack. The long-rumored smartphone was supposed to be officially unveiled on Thursday, although a OnePlus 5T unboxing video was leaked only a few days before the official announcement. Here’s what we know.
Just a few days ago, pictures of the latest OnePlus’ phone was leaked on Zdnet, and now a 5-minute OnePlus 5T Unboxing video emerged. The video compared the upcoming OnePlus 5T with the company’s current flagship smartphone OnePlus 5. The video was originally uploaded to YouTube, although it was removed shortly thereafter. That’s not surprising given that any leaked information regarding the upcoming OnePlus 5T, such as articles, videos, and other info is strictly prohibited.
Fortunately, for people who want to see how the new OnePlus jewel stacks up against the original OnePlus 5, someone grabbed the video before it was deleted, and re-uploaded it. More importantly, it’s unlikely that the video will be taken down anytime soon.
What makes the two smartphones different is mainly the new screen featured on the 5T. The OnePlus 5T unboxing video shows that the smartphone sports a display with slim bezels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is important to note that this means that the company doesn’t sport its Home button anymore, which means that the fingerprint sensor was moved to the rear of the phone. Fortunately, it is easier to reach than on the Galaxy S8.
Pete Lau, also suggested that the price of OnePlus 5T will be higher than that of the original OnePlus 5. He explained in his recent tweet that the components are getting more expensive. However, that also means that phones are more powerful in the process.
“Cost of smartphone components is rising, but phones are also getting better. OnePlus users will appreciate what’s coming.”
The smartphone is likely to sport the same specs as the OnePlus 5. There are minor changes, though. The second camera, on the rear, is believed to sport a bigger aperture. Bigger aperture on the camera will contribute to better quality images. However, the same build inside also means that the smartphone won’t come with the popular wireless charging feature, although Lau wrote an exciting post which compares wireless charging with the Dash charging technology that OnePlus smartphones utilize. The OnePlus CEO believes that their Dash charge technology is still a “superior experience.”
As mentioned above, OnePlus’ new smartphone will be publicly unveiled on Nov. 16, and we will see how much changed compared to the original OnePlus 5 that came out earlier this year and is still one of the most popular smartphones in 2017.
