After a year of encouraging people to upgrade for free, Microsoft recently announced they will be putting an end to the Free Windows 10 Upgrades, though they didn’t exactly shout it from the rooftops. Now that we’ve brought your attention to the Free Windows 10 Upgrades coming to an end, it is important to activate your upgrade sooner rather than later if you’re hoping to benefit.

After making a change to what has otherwise been an obscure web page, Microsoft recently announced their Free Windows 10 Upgrades would end on December 31st 2017. This is the first time Microsoft have announced changes to their free upgrade since 2016, when they officially ended their ‘Get Window 10’ program, which at the time allowed users to upgrade to Windows 10 from any previous version. When they originally made this announcement, Microsoft unwillingly created a giant loophole, which would allow individuals with ‘assistive technologies’ to upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

The offer for people who use assistive technologies was marketed to improve the Windows 10 experience for people with disabilities, who would receive an automatic extension of the free upgrade offer. This meant the Free Windows 10 Upgrades weren’t restrictive, and though technically speaking those who missed the deadline and who weren’t using assistive technologies could no longer upgrade for free, people found ways around it, and this gray area created a window of opportunity for users to continue updating for free.

The Free Windows 10 Upgrades had to be addressed consequently, and they were recently. Microsoft changed a page which previously read ‘We will make a public announcement prior to ending the offer’, to ‘The accessibility upgrade offer expires on December 31 2017’. Though this comes as news to most, the announcement was made in October on the MSFT Twitter account.

Receiving news of the Free Windows 10 Upgrades coming to an end should be enough encouragement to act quickly, since as a consumer you’d feel silly missing out on the deal. If you want to upgrade your version of Windows 10, be certain to act quickly, and I hope you have found this article useful for bringing to your attention news the Free Windows 10 Update is ending.
