The iPhone X is available in two colors; Space Gray, and Silver. There were rumours of a blush gold iPhone X, but for whatever reason, that didn’t happen. Here’s our iPhone X Space Gray vs Silver color comparison, helping you to decide which of the two colors best suits you!
For most of the previous iPhone releases, especially those in recent years, people were always given a choice between 3 colors when choosing their device. Even the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus, which were released just prior to the iPhone X, come with a choice of 3 different color options – Space Gray, Silver, or Gold.
With the iPhone X, regardless of which color you choose, you’re getting a gorgeous piece of hardware and you will not be disappointed. One important thing to note when deciding which color you want, is that both devices look exactly the same from the front. That’s something which we haven’t seen Apple do since the iPhone 3Gs and 5C. Usually, if you purchase a silver iPhone, or a gold iPhone, then the front panel of your handset would be silver or gold too.
That put a number of people off buying the silver, white, or gold options, because the screen does appear larger with a black front panel on the handset. So, it’s nice to know that whichever color you select on the iPhone X, you get the same black front panel, making the edge-to-edge display look huge.
While they look identical from the front, the back and sides obviously have some big differences. The silver iPhone X has a grayish-white glass panel on the back, and a silver looking stainless steel frame encasing the sides of the device. On the space gray option you get a dark gray glass back panel, and a much darker metallic stainless steel frame encasing all 4 sides of the device.
Pros and Cons For Both Colors
When you’re spending a minimum of $999 on a new smartphone, the last thing you want to do is scratch it. As we all know, stainless steel always scratches. If you own a stainless steel Apple Watch, then you’ll be well aware of the problem already, no matter how hard you tried to keep it looking brand new. So, if you want to avoid getting any scratches on the stainless steel sides, then you’re going to need a case.
One thing to keep in mind about the stainless steel sides of the iPhone X is that the scratches show up more clearly on the silver version, the dark metallic frame on the space grey model manages to hide them quite well.
Speaking of keeping your device looking brand new, you’re probably well aware that the iPhone X features a full glass front and a full glass back panel, so you will be taking out your cleaning cloth and removing fingerprints fairly often. While both the space gray and silver devices show fingerprints, they are more prominent on the space gray device.
Another subtle difference on the iPhone X compared to other models, is that the labels and FCC logos that used to be printed on the back of the device, are now listed in the software instead, so all you see on the back of your device is the Apple logo, and the word “iPhone”. If you live in a country like the UK though, then you’ll still find all of the labels and FCC logos printed on the back of the device to comply with local laws.

One final thing to think about, as this is the 10 year anniversary edition of the iPhone, it makes sense that Apple drew some inspiration from the original iPhone device. With the black front panel, and silver/aluminum back and framework.
Whichever color you decide to go for, you will not be disappointed, they both look incredible. Overall, the space gray iPhone X will likely show less wear on the stainless steel frame than the silver version, but the silver version will show fingerprints more clearly.
