New $35 iPhone 7 Dongle Lets You Charge While Listening To Music

Updated on

Apple has long been criticized for doing away with the headphone jack in the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Users now are not able to charge and listen to  music (via wired headphones) simultaneously. Now it seems after a year of grilling, someone has come up with a solution to let users listen to music while charging their phone.

It must be noted that the solution actually comes from Belkin, which came up with an adaptor that enables users to plug in a 3.5 mm headphone jack and the Lightning cable for charging. iPhone users who were deprived of the headphone jack can now get this iPhone dongle at Apple retail stores.

Belkin’s latest iPhone dongle bears a price tag of $34.95. This is Belkin’s second Lightning dongle. The version released last year had two Lightning ports, and users had to plug Apple’s own headphone dongle into another dongle to listen to music using wired headphones.

Just last month, the Cupertino, California-based company launched the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X. All three phones require users to listen to music through wireless headphones or with the help of the Lightning connector on the iPhone. Now the new iPhone dongle will surely make life easier for iPhone users.

The product listing for the new iPhone dongle on Apple’s website says, “Whether you want to charge in the car, on the go or at home, the adapter makes it possible to listen to 3.5mm audio and power your iPhone, simultaneously.”

This iPhone dongle is bulkier than the one that Apple ships with its iPhones. For those who intend to take this dongle out, listening to music and charging the phone at the same time may not be a pleasant experience.

“But this is a much bigger dongle than the one that comes included with your iPhone, so it’s going to look awkward and silly if you’re using it out in public,” says The Verge.

There are reports that a couple of iPhone 8 Plus handsets being split open. The battery exploding issue is not new, and we always hear such reports every time a new phone from a top brand is launched. Most of the time, it is either a manufacturing defect or mishandling by the user.

Similar stories are now afloat for Apple’s latest flagships, as pictures of the split-open iPhone 8 Plus handsets are circulating. One incident happened in Japan. and the other was reported in Taiwan. Pictures show the aluminum frames detached from the body, which could be a battery issue, notes the Financial Express.

A user in Taiwan said that her iPhone 8 Plus (64GB) variant opened while charging. She claimed that the phone was being charged with the original iPhone charger. According to the user, after three minutes of charging, the screen of the iPhone started bulging. The iPhone 8 Plus buyer in Japan said the handset was already split open when it arrived.

Apple is currently investigating both cases. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus batteries have smaller batteries than their predecessors, according to teardown reports. Though Apple has also confirmed this, it noted that the effectiveness of the batteries remains the same.
