How To Downgrade iOS 11.1 On Your iPhone [GUIDE]

Updated on

Apple is working on iOS 11.1, the next major software update, and as you may already know, the company has released four betas for testing. If you are looking for a way to downgrade iOS 11.1 on your iPhone or iPad and roll it back to iOS 11.0.3 or iOS 10.3.3, this guide will help you.

Step 1: Download/Update iTunes to the latest version

Getting the latest version of iTunes on your computer is the first and essential step for preparing to downgrade iOS 11.1 on your iPhone or iPad. To check whether you need to update iTunes, click “Account” on the top menu and then choose “Check For Available Downloads” from the drop-down menu.

You will also need to get the right IPSW file in order to downgrade iOS 11.1. Make sure to download the correct file, or else the system will not downgrade properly.

Step 2: Disable iCloud on your iPhone and iPad

Disabling iCloud on your device is also of fundamental importance. To do that, head over to “Settings” on your device. Tap “iCloud,” and then choose “Find My iPhone,” and disable it. You will need to input your iCloud password in order to disable this function.

Step 3: Enter Recovery Mode/DFU Mode on your device

You will have to hard-restart your device for it to enter Recovery Mode. For owners of devices before the iPhone 7, press and hold the Power and Home buttons at the same time for 10 seconds. Once the Apple logo appears on your screen, release the power button. Continue holding the Home button until iTunes tells you that your device has entered Recovery Mode.

The iPhone 7 has brought some changes, which means you will have to follow this guide to enter DFU mode. If you own an iPhone 8, follow this guide to enter DFU mode on your iPhone 8.

Step 4:  Downgrade iOS 11.1 on your iPhone or iPad

Make sure your iPhone or iPad is connected to your computer. If you own a Mac: press and hold the “Option” key, and then click “Restore iPhone” once iTunes gives you the option to do that. If you own a Windows PC: press and hold the “Shift” button and click “Restore iPhone” once prompted by iTunes.

After you have told iTunes to restore your iPhone or iPad, browse the IPSW file you downloaded prior to this step. Once you do that, Apple’s software will downgrade iOS 11.1.
