The last week or so has not been very kind to Google’s newest flagship devices, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. As customers have begun to receive their devices it sounds like there have been more and more issues arising with the pure Android smartphones. The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have had some display issues during their release window. Some users have been complaining about the color reproduction on the display of both devices which prompted Google to release a software update with the promise to continue monitoring the situation in case further software updates are needed. There has also been a huge uproar regarding screen burn-in on the Pixel 2 XL’s display. Some users are reporting that they are noticing burn-in on their Pixel 2 XL display after only using it for a week. There have been plenty of Tweets about the issue and this has prompted Google to look into the alleged screen burn-in problem. Plus, to top that all off, a user on Reddit reported they got a device shipped to them with a blue sticker indicating that the device failed quality control at the factory.
Yeah… So, needless to say, Google is not looking too great right now. If you were thinking about buying the Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL and you are having second thoughts then I definitely don’t blame you. But what else should you buy if you’re in the market for a new smartphone right now?
Get A Great Device And A Stylus, Too!
That’s right! You need to pick up the Galaxy Note 8. This is the device everyone thought might suffer because of the Pixel 2 XL but it appears the Pixel 2 XL may be driving smartphone buyers back into the arms of Samsung. Of course, Samsung had that whole battery issue last year but they are well beyond that and, by all accounts, the Galaxy Note 8 is actually an incredible device. Plus, Best Buy has put the Galaxy Note 8 on sale! Right now, you can save up to $250 if you set up a Galaxy Note 8 at Best Buy. Oh, and the Galaxy Note 8 has a stylus! More bang for your buck!
Top Of The Line Components
One of the reasons that so many people were considering the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL is because those two devices are the best that Google has to offer… However, Google is pretty much bound to the same hardware limitations as any other Android manufacturer. For example, the Snapdragon 835 chipset found in the Pixel 2 devices is the same one used in the Galaxy Note 8. There is even an argument to be made that the Galaxy Note 8 has better components in some areas. For example, The Galaxy Note 8 has a dual sensor camera setup. This theoretically should make the Galaxy Note 8 camera much better for low light shots when compared with single sensor cameras like the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.
No Burn-In And An Incredible Display
On paper, all of these devices have great displays. Of course, on paper the New York Giants had a Super Bowl caliber team this year and one look at the NFL standings will tell you otherwise. A display is only good if it works as intended. It appears that the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL displays are not working as intended. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Note 8 display has been a shining beacon of greatness. To be fair to the Pixel 2, it does not appear to suffer from burn-in. Its main issue seems to be with color reproduction. The Pixel 2 XL, however, is the model which is garnering the most burn-in complaints from users. If you want an incredible smartphone display, arguably the best on the market, then go for the Galaxy Note 8.

I know I already mentioned the Galaxy Note 8 is on sale at Best Buy but it’s worth mentioning again before I wrap this up. You can save up to $250 if you set up a Galaxy Note 8 at Best Buy. Remember; this device was the best Android flagship until Google revealed the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL a few weeks ago. The Galaxy Note 8 is an amazing device and if you can save some serious cash on one then why would you take the chance of buying Pixel 2 XL that could have a bad display and cost you more money? With all the issues going on right now; the Pixel 2 XL just doesn’t feel like a good way to spend money. Sure, Google will probably replace any affected devices as part of warranty obligations but who wants to go through that process? Get a Galaxy Note 8 and love your purchase long after everyone’s Pixel 2 XL devices have been replaced due to burn-in!
