Apple iPhone 8 vs. iPhone 7 vs. iPhone 6S [COMPARISON]

Updated on

When looking at the iPhone 8 vs. iPhone 7 vs. iPhone 6s, it’s easy to get a little confused about the differences between Apple’s flagship smartphones. This comparison may help you decide which iPhone you should buy.

Apple is still selling the iPhone 7 and iPhone 6s, which means that demand for these devices is still high. Now that the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are out, and with the iPhone X coming soon, many users wonder whether they should get rid of their iPhone 7 or 6s and choose one of Apple’s newer flagships. The iPhone 7 is relatively new, but the iPhone 6s is already two years old. As a result, many wonder whether it will be able to handle the next version of Apple’s mobile operating system. Nevertheless, the iPhone 6s is an amazing smartphone, and many have considered it to be one of Apple’s best smartphones. This is why we have made a comparison of these three phones: the iPhone 8 vs. iPhone 7 vs. iPhone 6s.

iPhone 8 vs. iPhone 7 vs. iPhone 6s: Design

The iPhone 8 features a slim build with an aluminum housing and a back made out of glass. It is available in three colors, which are silver, space gray and gold. Another feature includes the advanced IP67 water and dust resistance.

Like the iPhone 8, the iPhone 7 also features water and dust resistance. The smartphone is available in jet black, regular black, gold, rose gold, and silver. Unlike the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and the upcoming iPhone X, the iPhone 7 doesn’t feature a glass rear, which is mainly to support the wireless charging feature.

The iPhone 6s, while covered in aluminum, isn’t water- or dust-resistant. It is available in space gray, silver, gold and rose gold. There is one more difference that’s important to note. Apple decided to get rid of the headphone jack for its iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus last year. The same rule applies for the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X.

Display

All three phones feature a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with 1334 x 750-pixel resolution. Basically, the displays on all three devices are quite similar. All of them feature 3D Touch.

Apple’s iPhone 8 is equipped with True Tone display technology. Thanks to this feature, the display will adjust its brightness automatically based on the environment users are surrounded by.

Camera

Both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 have a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, while the aperture of Apple’s iPhone 6s is at f/2.2. The two newer models feature optical image stabilization, while the iPhone 6s doesn’t. More importantly, the two newer phones sport a quad-LED True Tone flash and digital zoom. However, Apple’s two-year-old flagship has a standard True Tone flash.

When it comes to the front cameras, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 feature a 7-megapixel sensor, while the iPhone 6s features a 5-megapixel sensor which can capture only 720p video. The newer iPhones’ camera is capable of 1080p video recording.

Configuration

As you can see, the specifications and hardware differ, given that the phones were released in different years. In this section about the iPhone 8 vs. iPhone 7 vs. iPhone 6s, we can see the most significant differences between them.

Apple’s iPhone 8 is equipped with an A11 Bionic chip, and there are two storage options: 64GB and 256GB. The batteries of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 are, as Apple says, the same. However, the battery of the iPhone 8 supports the Qi wireless charging standard, including fast charging.

The iPhone 7 runs on the A10 chip, while the iPhone 6s has the A9 chipset. The phones feature storage sizes that are half those offered by the iPhone 8, at 32GB and 128GB. Battery-wise, Apple claims that the battery of the iPhone 7 should last two hours longer than the battery of the iPhone 6s.

While the iPhone 6s is a little older than its successors, there’s no need to trash it yet. If you own an iPhone 6s that works properly, you won’t have to upgrade to iPhone 8, 8 Plus, or iPhone X, or at least not this year. Basically each of the three phones is a step up from the one released the year before it, in both features and performance.
