If you have a lot of files to put onto a tiny little card, then SanDisk has got your back. The company just announced its new 400GB MicroSD card. This SanDisk 400GB card is the only MicroSD card on the market that offers this much storage, according to the company. This represents a doubling of storage over SanDisk’s previous top offering.

As you can see, the video focuses a lot on smartphone performance. After all, most of us take most of our photos and videos using a smartphone rather than a traditional camera or camcorder. In the video they claim that the SanDisk 400GB card can transfer up to 1600 photos in just one minute. That’s a very impressive transfer rate, and SanDisk also claims that app performance has also been improved. Generally, apps can be installed to the MicroSD card on Android devices (if available) to save internal storage space. The argument against this has always been that apps installed on a MicroSD card will always load slower. However, the SanDisk 400GB card supposedly offers app loading speeds that are much faster than those offered by most other MicroSD cards.
Here’s what SanDisk has to say about its new MicroSD storage:
“Mobile devices have become the epicenter of our lives, and consumers are now accustomed to using their smartphones for anything from entertainment to business. We are collecting and sharing massive amounts of data on smartphones, drones, tablets, PCs, laptops and more. We anticipate that storage needs will only continue to grow as people continue to expect more sophisticated features on their devices and desire higher quality content.”
You’ll notice they don’t even mention things like digital cameras in their press release. Well, I guess they would be part of the “more” category. Still, smartphones, drones, PCs, tablets, and laptops all got mentioned by name. It’s clear that SanDisk sees where the storage industry is heading and the increased need from users for greater capacity and performance from their storage devices.
What do you think about the new SanDisk 400GB card? Is that enough storage for all of your files, or will you hold out for something bigger to keep all of your photos, videos, and music? If you want to get one, the SanDisk 400GB card is available for $249.99.
