Refurbished Galaxy Note 7 Sells Out Just Two Months After Launch

Updated on

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was perhaps the biggest dent in the South Korean electronics giant’s image. However, it seems that fans have forgiven their favorite brand and have even bought the refurbished edition of the Note 7, which was renamed the Galaxy Note FE. Just two months after its launch, the Note FE was sold out in the Korean market.

Fans are loving the Galaxy Note FE

Citing unnamed sources, Korea Herald says that about 400,000 units of the Galaxy Note FE were sold in Korea after being launched in July. Those planning to get their hands on the Note FE must be disappointed to know that the company has no plan to restock beyond the 400,000 that were sold in its home market. Samsung might consider launching the phone oversees.

The Samsung Galaxy Note FE comes with a price tag of about $620 and is $265 cheaper than the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7. Further, the handset comes with a battery capacity of 3,200 mAh, compared to the 3,500 mAh in the original Note 7.

Galaxy Note 8 vs. Note 7

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is the newest kid on the block, and the phone has been receiving some rave reviews. There are speculations that the phone has already been shipped in the United States. Moreover, rumor has it that both Verizon and Sprint may already have their initial stock of the Galaxy Note 8, which could be offered to customers sometime this week.

Comparisons have long been made between the Galaxy Note 8 and controversy’s favorite child, the Note 7. Compared to the Galaxy Note 8, the Galaxy Note FE is a little scant on sheen with just one rear-facing camera, the older Exynos 8890 processor and only a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED screen. The Galaxy Note 8 comes with iris scanning technology and the S Pen stylus just like the Note 7. However, the company has kept the battery smaller for the Note 8. On the screen front, the Note 8 has a larger, high-resolution screen than the Note 7. The Samsung Note 8 also comes with Samsung’s Bixby assistant and is the first Samsung phone to have a dual-lens camera.

The Samsung Note 8 comes with an octa-core Snapdragon 835 processor, whereas International variant come with the Exynos 8895 chip. Qualcomm claims that performance-wise, these processors are about 27% better than its predecessor, Snapdragon 821 and ahead of the Note 7’s Snapdragon 820. The Korean firm has also stuffed more memory power in the Note 8 with 6GB of RAM, compared to Note 7’s 4GB.

Galaxy S9 already in the works

There is also talk that Samsung might already be working on the Galaxy S9. It is impressive but far from a surprise, given the fact that this is the standard tech development cycle followed by companies nowadays. Tech companies like Samsung and Apple follow the same development cycle and starts production on one device even before its predecessor is released.

There are reports that Samsung has been working on a new display for the Galaxy S9 since March. This also implies that Samsung is at least 6 months ahead of the schedule it adopted for the Galaxy S8 in 2016, according to Know Your Mobile. Samsung’s new development systems have reportedly improved after the Note 7 battery explosion issues to streamline its development process.
