What to expect from Okami HD

All versions of Okami HD will be compatible with the 4K display and will include the loading screen mini-games that were not seen in the Wii and PlayStation 3 versions. Users will have the option to change the screen aspect ratio to 4:3. No official statement regarding availability outside Japan has come so far, notes Gamespot.

Even before Capcom confirmed the game’s release, Japanese gaming site Ryokutya2089 reported that the HD re-mastered version of Okami would launch in Japan by the end of this year. Since the source was Famitsu magazine, it was taken seriously. The post stated that the re-mastered version of Okami would be known as Okami: Zekkei in Japan.

Further, the announcement by Capcom follows recent rumors that Okami HD would arrive on two consoles this year. The sources of the rumors were the European retailers who had the game on their internal physical calendars set for December 12.

Okami debuted on the PS2 in 2006, and thereafter, it was ported to the Wii in 2008 and the PS3 in 2012. The game draws inspiration from Japanese legends and folklore and is set on the backdrop of the goddess Amaterasu’s story. The goddess Amaterasu takes the form of a white wolf to dispel a curse cast by the eight-headed demon Orochi.

Okami became popular around the world for its enigmatic visuals inspired by traditional Japanese Sumi-e paintings and Zelda-like gameplay. Hideki Kamiya, who is known for his work on Resident Evil, Bayonetta, Viewtiful Joe, and Devil May Cry, is the creator of Okami. Kamiya is employed at Platinum Games, an Osaka-based independent development studio, notes wccftech.

More re-mastered versions in the works

Capcom also announced that going forward, it will release more re-mastered versions of various other popular titles. Further, the company said that an HD port of the formerly 3DS exclusive Resident Evil title, Resident Evil: Revelations, is coming to the PS4 and Xbox One on August 29. Later, there will also be a Switch-compatible version of the game. Further, the re-mastered action RPG Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will be released for the PS4 and Xbox One on October 3, notes Gamespot.

More news on the re-mastered versions will hopefully be available at the Tokyo Game Show. Capcom recently released its game line-up and stage schedule for TGS 2017 in Chiba later this month. The line-up includes IPs from Dead Rising, Marvel Vs. Capcom, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter and so on.

At the event, developers will be offering details on the popular titles and new game systems while playing the game live. The much-anticipated event will start at 20:00 JST on September 21, and the Mega Man panel is scheduled for September 24 from 14:20 to 15:05 JST. Capcom producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya will be present at the event, along with several other guests.
