Google Pixel 2 Certification Confirms More Details

Updated on

Google’s new flagship devices, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, are expected to launch this fall on October 5th. By time that rolls around we will have a very good idea of what the iPhone X is offering and people will already have their hands on the Galaxy Note 8 as well. There have been quite a few leaks about the Pixel 2 and with nearly a month left until the launch date, there will likely be many more. Today, details about the Google Pixel 2 certification and the Pixel 2 XL certification were seen online at Global Certification Forum (GCR).

LetsGoDigital passed along this information to us today and it gives some more insight into what to expect come October 5th. We have been hearing for some time that the Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL would be built by two different hardware manufacturers; HTC and LG, respectively. These Google Pixel 2 certification details seem to confirm the rumors about HTC and LG manufacturing the devices.

This first page shows the Google Pixel 2 certification. As you can see, HTC is listed as the manufacturer. We also are able to see the model number which is G011A. If you’re interested, you can check out that page and see the network and band support for the Google Pixel 2. It’s nice to see we have a confirmation of model number. Sometimes we see leaks with reference to model numbers and it’s hard to put a retail name to the model number. This should help spur on a few more leaks over the next few weeks.

There is also a certification page for the Google Pixel 2 XL. If you go to that page you can see that LG is listed as the manufacturer and the model number is G011C. Again, the network bands are listed for you to view if you feel so inclined.

These leaks certainly aren’t groundbreaking but they do add some weight to previous rumors. For example, we have been hearing that the Pixel 2 would have a squeezable frame like the HTC U11. Now, with this Google Pixel 2 certification information we can see that HTC is, in fact, manufacturing the device and it is very likely that the report about a squeezable frame was accurate. This would also lend some credibility to the rumors of a bezel-less Google Pixel 2 XL being manufactured by LG. The most recent devices from LG like the G6 and V30 have been bezel-less and it makes sense that LG would use that same style in the device they are manufacturing for Google.

Google Pixel 2 certification leaks certainly aren’t as sexy or exciting as a leaked photo or video but they are super helpful in weeding out the rumors that may or may not be true. Now that we have confirmation of the manufacturers and model numbers we can better assess future leaks in the lead up to the October 5th launch of these new flagship devices. Does this new info make you more excited for the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL or are you still holding out for more information?
