Secret Of Mana Remake To Hit PS4, Vita, PC In February

Updated on

A Secret of Mana remake has been announced for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and Windows PC. Developer Square Enix assured fans that the remake will have a whole set of new features, such as a multiplayer option limited to three people, new musicals, voice acting and fully re-mastered 3D graphics.

What to expect from the Secret of Mana remake

Earlier today, it was assumed that PlayStation Latin America accidentally leaked the announcement about the Secret of Mana remake for PS4 and PS Vita on its Facebook page. The post carried this caption: “A legendary RPG returns. Secret of Mana comes to PS4 and PS Vita on February 15, 2018.” Further, there was a link in the caption suggesting that it is a 3D remake, notes Gematsu. The post was taken down shortly thereafter, leading many to believe that it was a mistake.

However, just a couple of hours later, Square Enix officially announced the remake. The developer also released a trailer for the new game.

In a blog post, Square Enix’s product lead, Francis Santos, said, “That’s right, you heard Randi in the trailer and you’ll finally get to hear Randi, Primm, Popoi and many other characters talk and express themselves throughout their adventure!”

Further, Santos noted that the game will have a language option allowing players to experience the game using Japanese voices and /or subtitles.

Same story but upgraded gameplay

Secret of Mana has attracted a cult following since its debut on Super Nintendo in 1993 in Japan. The game originally was released as Seiken Densetsu 2 in Japan on SNES. Outside Japan, it was sold as Secret of Mana.

In the 3D remake, Sqaure Enix will retell the story of Randi, Primm and Popoi. The story will remain the same as in the original version of Secret of Mana, which the fans have been playing ever since its release. However, the graphics will be 3D, and there will be additional controls.

Secret of Mana is an action role-playing game in which players go through the fantasy world mining the Earth for an energy source called Mana. The game tells the story of an ancient civilization that built a warship called the Mana Fortress, which was used to harness the precious resource. This action angered the gods, who then send monsters to destroy the civilization and destroy almost all of the Mana in the world. Finally, a hero ends the conflict using the Mana Sword, and later, a young lad comes across the legendary Mana Sword, and that’s where the game begins as the player goes on an adventure to fight against the evil empire.

The Secret of Mana remake will launch on Feb. 15, 2018 in North America. Those who pre-order the game will get Moogle and Tiger costumes for all three heroes as DLC. As of now, it is not clear if the Western release will get English support or whether it will just be Japanese audio. It must be noted that the list of consoles getting the re-mastered version excludes the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch for now, suggesting that Sony has got the upper hand over the other console makers.
