LG V30 To Come With Widest Aperture Ever On Phone Camera

Updated on

The LG V30 phone will have the widest aperture currently found in any smartphone across all brands. The smartphone, which will launch on August 31, will come with a dual rear-facing camera, with one of the lenses having an aperture of f/1.6.

As is the case with wider apertures, it will provide 25% more light to the camera sensor than a typical f/1.8 lens. Instead of a plastic lens, LG will use a glass, crystal clear lens offering better light. The company, however, ensured that the sensors will not be heavy, even with the dual-lens camera setup. Moreover, the camera’s lens will be 30% smaller than previous V-edition smartphones.

“Excellence in smartphone cameras has long been a core competency of LG’s mobile devices and the dual camera module in the upcoming LG V30 will include the world’s largest aperture and clearest lens ever to be featured in a smartphone,” LG said in a press release.

From what the South Korean electronics giant is teasing, the V30 will excel in low light performance. Further, the dual-lens camera setup will reduce the edge distortion in wide angle shots, which would be better than the one used in previous flagships for wide angle photos. Various other features of the camera are specialized UK featuring laser detection AF, electronic image stabilization and optic image stabilization.

Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications stated, “LG boasts an unrivaled heritage in smartphone photography and our decision to adopt glass in the V30 camera is specifically because this has traditionally been the realm of DSLRs.”

Cho further stated that the innovations in the V30 are significant, from users’ point of view.

LG is also looking to enhance video features in the LG V30 phone. The smartphone will have 4K video recording. As of now, LG has not come out in the open about any other setting in video recording, but there could be a few more revelations as the release date comes closer.

What to expect from the LG V30 phone

Other than improvements in the camera, LG stated in a separate press release that the V30 and various other LG devices will come packed with Immersions’ TouchSense technology for high-definition haptics. The technology “enables device manufacturers to simulate the connected experiences of the real world.”

The LG V30 comes with a 6-inch QHD+OLED (1440×2880 pixels) full vision display. The company also stated that the bezel on the upper edge is reduced by 20%, and on the lower edge, they’re cutting 50% off the bottom bezel on the V20.

The LG V30 phone is all set to be unveiled on August 31 during the Berlin/IFA trade show. The handset is expected to come with a Snapdragon 836 processor, 64GB of internal memory, headphone jack, IP68 water and dust resistance, a powerful battery, quad DAC, and wireless charging.

Further, rumors suggest that the phone will not come with a secondary screen; instead it will reportedly be replaced entirely with a “floating bar,” which is expected to perform the same function as the secondary screen. It might come as a disappointment to those who enjoyed using the mini display in previous V-series phones.
