The tech world often gets hung up on specs. Which smartphone has the fastest processor? Which one has the most storage? Which one has the best camera? The list of questions we ask about every device goes on and on. Sometimes we ignore the color of upcoming devices. It makes sense that people would care about an iPhone 8 colors comparison though… I mean, if you’re going to spend $1,100 on a device that you will be keeping by your side nearly everywhere you go then you should at least like the appearance.
For those concerned about the colors of the iPhone 8, Danny Winget did a great iPhone 8 colors comparison video. You may remember him as the one that compared the design of the iPhone 7S Plus and the iPhone 8. Now he’s using those prototype smartphones to show off the unique differences between each different color. The most interesting color is the new copper gold iPhone 8 that will be replacing the rose gold color we have come to know from Apple. Check out the video below:
There’s the classic black and white models which are interesting to see but the copper gold is why we’re watching the iPhone 8 colors comparison. The copper gold is a nice change from the rose gold. I can see the copper gold color appealing to more people whereas the rose gold was much more pink and has a limited appeal to those who didn’t want to be carrying around a pink device.
The really nice part about the iPhone 8 colors comparison video is getting the change to see how the prototypes respond to light as they’re turned and held. You can also see that the sides of the copper gold iPhone 8 have a shiny gold finish. This might be a bit flashy for some but some people are going to love the bold design. Of course, if you don’t, you always have the black or white iPhone 8 to fall back on.
These prototypes in the video obviously don’t show off much beyond just the design. However, thanks to a summer full of leaks, we know a lot about the upcoming iPhone 8. Even Apple got in on the leaking when they accidentally revealed details about the iPhone 8 through the HomePod firmware.
So, what do we know other than that the iPhone 8 will be available in white, black, and copper gold?
The bezels are dead. The iPhone 8 will have a nearly bezel-less design that shows off the new OLED display. Of course, that means that the home button is dead and gone. It’s unclear what Apple will do with TouchID since the home button is gone. Some early reports had indicated that Apple was trying to move the TouchID sensor underneath the OLED display but more recent rumors are suggesting that the fingerprint sensor will be a part of the power/lock button. One leak from last week showed off photos with a module that looked like a fingerprint scanner on the back of the device. However, other than this single photo, there hasn’t been much to support the fact that the fingerprint sensor would be on the back of the iPhone 8 so I think it’s safe to say that the TouchID will be incorporated somewhere else in the device.
TouchID may not even matter to a lot of users after the inclusion of Apple’s newest feature: PearlID. PearlID was one of the features confirmed by Apple in the HomePod firmware leak. All summer long we heard rumors about Apple’s 3D face scanning feature. This is it. Using a front-facing infrared camera, the iPhone 8 will be able to scan a user’s facial features and then perform a variety of security verification tasks including unlocking the device, authorizing Apple Pay purchases, and accessing secure apps. It will be interesting to see how well the feature works in real life and if it can replace the reliability of TouchID.
Those are just some of the new features coming in Apple’s much-anticipated new flagship device. You can expect them to pull out all the stops with this being the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 8 at an event sometime in September with sales beginning shortly thereafter. Don’t forget to start saving your spare change; the iPhone 8 is expected to cost $1,100.
