Sometimes it’s not enough to just enjoy your comic books, your video games, your films by yourself. Sometimes you want to share your passion with the world – whether it’s through stunning cosplay, conventions, or exploring new video games, a convention is the place to go to really get your interests on display.
MrGamez have put together a guide to the biggest and most successful conventions around the world, from the industry-defining goliath that is the Japanese Comiket, where they sell comics (including self-published comics called D?jinshi), anime, and manga, to E3 (or the “Electronic Entertainment Expo”) where videogaming fans can test-drive new games consoles and games.
Including costs, locations, and features, it’s the ideal way to spot a convention that suits your hobby and get together with other top video game, comic book, or film devotees.
Areas of interest include:
- Star Wars for as little as $65 for a day ticket at the worldwide Star Wars Celebration!
- Japanese anime and manga with no ticket price at Comiket!
- Pop Culture at MCM in London, costing no more than $26 for a day ticket!
- Video Games at E3, which was open to the public for the first time in 2017, costing visitors between $150 and $250 for a three day pass.
- And a healthy dose of all of the above at countless other Comic Cons like those in New York, San Diego and Salt Lake City!
Many of the conventions, Comic Cons in particular, also offer private screenings of premiere trailers, new comic reveals, and panels of celebrities – meaning visitors are not only getting the first chance to see new material from the worlds they love, but are also often receiving it for a reduced cost from those who experience betas of games and see celebrities separately.
At the Barcelona Games World in 2017, for example, 70 new video game titles were announced – and visitors played a massive total of over 480,000 games on 1,000 different gaming terminals across the 3 days. That’s 160 games on each console a day – even hardcore gamers might struggle to manage that by themselves!
