Splatoon Is Now Getting An Online Anime Series

Updated on

In a short period of time, Splatoon has undoubtedly become one of Nintendo’s most popular titles, especially in Japan. Now, to capitalize on its popularity, Splatoon will be turned into an animated series for television.

Anime adaptation for Splatoon

The development was announced by the Japanese magazine CoroCoro, which reports that the series will debut on its YouTube channel on August 12. The series will take cues from the Splatoon Manga series, which was started by CoroCoro Comic magazine in 2015. However, there is no clarity if the television series would be the bit by bit adaptation of the anime or vary.

There are four main characters in the series: Goggles-Kun, Headphones-Chan, Glasses-Kun and Knit Cap-Chan. All of these characters are named for what they wear. Although there are NPCs from the game, they are not the center of the story. The first nine comic issues were focused on the comedic turf wars; the tenth issue, which was released in April, introduced Hero Mode, notes NintendoWire.

It has net yet been revealed whether the animated series will be dubbed in English. While Viz Media is planning on publishing the Splatoon Manga in English toward the end of this year, Nintendo has released the English-dubbed anime already. Further, there is no clarity on whether Nintendo is backing the animated initiative, something that the company hinted at during its annual shareholder meeting, notes usgamer.

What’s special about Splatoon 2?

Meanwhile, Splatoon 2 is all set to release on the Switch this Friday in North America. Therefore, for Prime subscribers, not much time is left to pre-order the new title and get a 20% discount on the price. Nintendo will also roll out the Switch Online mobile app on the same day to allow players to voice chat with their friends.

There are some noteworthy features in Splatoon 2, which is the sequel to Splatoon for the Wii U. The new version will have some upgraded weapons, such as the dual-wielding Splat Dualies, and the new Dodge roll move. Mainstay weapons such as the Splat Roller and Splat Charger have been updated to include new mechanics and new special weapons.

Splatoon 2 also adds local multiplayer Turf War battles either in television mode or on the go in handheld and tablet modes. Users can play online battles as well. Players will also be able to play with the Joy Con controllers or the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller using the gyro controls for better aiming and controlling.

Splatoon’s latest Splatfest was concluded this weekend, and Team Ice Cream defeated Team Cake in the competition. Nintendo also flashed the message warning users who repeatedly quit when their team is losing. The message warned that if they repeatedly quit when their team is behind, they will be banned from the game temporarily.

“Your previous online play session didn’t end naturally, which is PREEEEETTY suspicious. If this keeps happening, we’re gonna have to block you from playing online for a while. Make sure your internet isn’t busted and try again,” the Splatoon message reads.
