The much-anticipated and long-delayed Gran Turismo Sport finally has a release date. Gran Turismo Sport, which is Sony’s answer to Microsoft’s Forza franchise, will be released on October 18 in Europe and Australia, while in the U.S., it comes out a day earlier.
Delayed only to get better
Sony recently revealed that the game will be released this fall. However, it’s the first time fans have been informed about an exact release date since the delay in 2016. Originally, the game was scheduled to debut in November 2016; however, it was delayed so as not to compromise on quality.
Now we’ve learned that the game’s creator Polyphony has successfully completed the closed beta phase, which started in March 2016, and now, it is busy putting the finishing touches on the popular game, notes Engadget. The game was first teased in May 2016; however, at that time, it wasn’t very impressive. According to Eurogamer, the developer has made great strides since the initial teaser. The beta phase was initially planned for early 2016, but it was canceled in May.
“We are now entering the final stages of polishing as we prepare for launch,” said Polyphony president Kazunori Yamauchi in a blog post.
More information about the game, including creative tools, cars and tracks will be shared before its release date, said Yamauchi, who has been working on the series since it began in 1997.
“We’ve strived to create something that delivers an unprecedented experience in terms of the graphics, sound, and physics simulation; an experience that can only be enjoyed on PlayStation.”
What to expect in Gran Turismo Sport
As was said earlier, the game will support the PlayStation VR headset with a virtual reality mode. Sony also confirmed previously that the game will run at 4K and 60 FPS on the PS4 Pro. A fresh emphasis on online racing is another attraction for the game. Gran Turismo Sport, which is exclusive to the PS4, will not support dynamic time or weather this time. These two features have been dropped to improve the frame rate and quality of the graphics. Players, however, will still have options to choose the time and weather before starting a race.
It must be noted that Gran Turismo Sport, which is the seventh mainline entry in the franchise, is coming out just weeks after the launch of Microsoft’s Forza Motorsport 7 on Windows 10 and the Xbox One on Oct. 3. Gran Turismo Sport is already available for pre-order from the PlayStation Store and at several retailers. Gamers will have a few options to choose from.
The Gran Turismo Sport Standard Edition will be available for the usual $59.99, while the Limited Edition will be available for $69.99 (includes GT Sport Starter Pack (8 Cars), $1MM In-Game Credit, Livery Sticker Pack, 30 GT Sport Themed Avatars, Chrome Racing Helmet (For Driver Profile) and Limited Steelbook & Packaging. There is also a Digital Deluxe Edition with more cars, double the in-game credit and avatars for $79.99.
