Last week we reported that the price of the Galaxy Note 8 could make it Samsung‘s most expensive smartphone. This information could have been considered just rumor, given that it came from well-known tipster Evan Blass on VentureBeat. However, now we can tell you that others are predicting the same thing.
Price of the Galaxy Note 8
The images published by mobilefun.co.uk show Note 8 cases with a clear view of the sensor on the rear. That may come as a disappointment to Note fans, as we had recently reported about that too. However, it doesn’t appear to have changed people’s minds about the price of the Galaxy Note 8. Instead, it appears that the cost could be higher than previously predicted by Evan Blass and his so-called “Samsung insider.”
New price predictions
What we can tell you is that if you’re planning on getting a Note 8, you’ll probably need to save up quite a lot of cash. According to South Korean Site Osen, you may have to pay as much as $1,100 for a 64GB model, which would make it considerably more expensive than the Galaxy S8+ and a huge $130 more than Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus.
According to Osen, there could also be a 128GB version of the handset; however, no price was given for it. That isn’t surprising, considering that no name was given for the supposed Samsung official who passed on this information.
Why such a price increase?
Also according to Osen, the price of the Galaxy Note 8 will be high because of component costs. Apparently, 2017 has seen the prices for some important smartphone internals rise significantly, although again, no further details have been given. The problem for Samsung, if this news is true, is that Apple could be about to leave it behind. For the first time in many years, the iPhone could be the more innovative handset.
Like Samsung, Apple is chasing the dream of a fingerprint sensor that’s embedded in the display. However, it has been reported that the Cupertino-based outfit is willing to delay the iPhone 8 launch in order to get it right, whereas it appears that Samsung has given up on trying to solve the problems it faces.
That being said, the inclusion of this tech in the next-gen iPhone will more than likely push its price tag beyond $1,000. However, with an OLED display, near non-existent bezels, a dual-sensor rear camera, and a Touch ID embedded in the display, it could tempt those who want the best smartphone to switch to Apple.
Possible specs and features
Unfortunately, when it comes to trying to narrow down the reasons for the price of the Galaxy Note 8 to be increased so much, it’s not easy. Without a fingerprint sensor, it’s essentially not much different than the S8+. It will undoubtedly come with software not found on devices that don’t have an S-pen, but its display will be similar to the displays on those devices.
According to what we’ve seen so far, the Note 8 will have a bigger screen, but probably not by much, at 6.3 inches. That’s just one-tenth of an inch different; however, it is expected to offer a curved display that covers its face. Additionally, it will likely be the first Samsung handset to feature a dual-lens camera on its back. However, Samsung is late to the party with this tech, just like it will probably be with the embedded fingerprint sensor too. LG, Apple and HTC already beat it to the market with dual-lens cameras on their handsets.
The brains of the beast are likely to be this year’s top Snapdragon chipset, the 835. This powerhouse of a chip is already powering the S8 and other top Android devices, so you can expect it in the Note 8 too. However, depending on where you are in the world, the Note 8 could have the Exynos chipset. We could see 6GB of RAM, which, coupled with either 64GB or 128GB of storage, would make it a super-fast handset. We will just have to wait and see if any of these rumors and leaks turn out to be accurate.

So a consensus is building which predicts the price of the Galaxy Note 8 as being the most expensive Samsung handset to ever hit a shelf near you. We would rather read and share insiders’ predictions rather than predicting it ourselves.
