LG V30 launch date set for August 31 at IFA tradeshow in Berlin

For the first time, LG will probably unveil a flagship device at the IFA tradeshow in Berlin, Germany. Invitations have already been sent for the unpacking event, and guests have been asked to save LG V30 launch date and time as 9 a.m. on August 31.

LG V30 launch date probably set for August 31

Though the invite does not exclusively say that it’s for the LG V30 launch date, it does give some obvious hints. The invitation has a vague image in a V shape of the upcoming phone’s screen in black and white. The shape of the image suggests that the new flagship falls in the V series of phablets.

The screen ratio could be the same as that of the G6 model unveiled earlier this year, notes ZDNet. Previously, LG told ZDNet that the 18:9 ratio screen would be seen in many of its upcoming devices. The LG Q series launched earlier this week is a range of premium “affordable” phones that have the same screen size as the G6.

Several rumors about the device’s specifications claim that the LG V30 will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset and come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There will be a microSD card slot as well to expand the memory. Another prominent rumor is that LG is planning to drop its secondary screen in favor of an OLED display.

“Most OLED screens produced at LG Display’s Gumi E5 plant in the second half will be used for its sister firm LG Electronics’ smartphones, starting with the V30”, claimed a recent report from Korea citing industry sources.

Like its predecessor, the LG V30 could also come with a dual rear camera setup, and there will reportedly be a fingerprint sensor on the back as well. It is believed that the device will feature a 3.5mm audio jack, and for charging, there will be a USB Type-C port. It is very possible that the handset will support wireless charging, as it reportedly has a glass back, notes Digit.

LG G7 is another upcoming handset

There are rumors that the company is also working on the LG G7, the successor to the LG G6 released this year. The company reportedly intends to use the latest Snapdragon 845 processor in the device, for which it is in talks with Qualcomm.

“The adoption of the Snapdragon 845 for LG’s next flagship phone seems inevitable, considering the emerging virtual reality and augmented reality solutions require more powerful data processing capability,” stated Aju Business Daily, citing an industry official.

No confirmation has come as yet on the LG G6 or LG V30 launch date, but some information on the upcoming handsets can be expected in the coming weeks.

LG has lost momentum in the smartphone business, and thus, it is putting effort into releasing new flagship devices with spectacular features. The upcoming handsets will likely strengthen its position in the segment dominated by the likes of Apple and Samsung. However, it won’t be easy for LG, as Samsung could also launch its Galaxy Note 8 in August, while Apple is also expected to launch the iPhone 8 later this year.
