LG will launch its Q8 smartphone in various markets apart from Italy later this week, according to an official statement released by the company on Monday. Though the company gave no information on the countries in which the phone will launch this week, it did say that all the markets are in Europe. Next month, the handset will be launched in Asian markets.
LG Q8 has impressive specs
The LG Q8 with its dimensions of 149×71.9 x8 mm is the latest flagship from the company; it weighs around 146 gms. Additionally, the phone will come with a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels and a density of 564 ppi. The smartphone boasts Corning Gorilla Glass 4. LG is also offering a secondary display with a resolution of 160x 1040p which will remain on by default.
The LG Q8 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, which is a 64-bit quad-core chip clocking up to 2.15GHz, the Adreno 530 GPU. The handset comes with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, out of which 2GB will be available actively. Further, the smartphone has 32 GB of storage, of which 22 GB will be available to the user out-of-the-box. In addition, the phone supports a microSD card with up to 2TB of space. The handset comes with a non-removable 3,000 mAh Li-ion battery, which LG claims gives a battery backup of up to 100 hours of standby time.
The LG Q8 will run Android 7.0 Nougat and is fitted with a 13 MP rear camera with a 28 mm lens and f/1.8 aperture and a 6.5-inch sensor with 1.12?m pixel size. Further, the rear-facing camera has OIS and a dual-LED flash. The second camera is 8 megapixels with a 20 mm wide angle lens (135-degrees), f/2.4 aperture and a 1/4-inch sensor with 1.12?m pixel size. The rear camera supports up to 8x digital zoom and 0.5x optical zoom.
What purposes will the facial recognition system serve?
Ever since the Q8 has been announced, many have been comparing it to and calling it the mini version of the LG V20. The comparison seems to be fair, as the Q8 has various features derived from the LGV20. The LG Q8 comes with two cameras, a durable battery and a fingerprint reader. Clearly, it is impossible to include all the features in the smaller version, but then LG has done a good job when it comes to identifying and powering the phone with features that matter.
“The Q8 gets much of its DNA from past V devices but is designed for one-handed use and ease of portability,” said Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.
Apart from these specs, LG is looking to bring facial recognition technology into the mainstream with the Q6. The facial recognition feature will be used to unlock the phone. However, the system has been questioned by many tech experts who state that a simple photograph of the owner can also be used to unlock the phone. Though the sensors and software have improved, there are still some issues that need to be addressed. It is for this reason that some industry experts do not take the technology seriously; rather, they describe it as a publicity gimmick.
