Spencer: Xbox Project Scorpio Schedule ‘Looks Very Good’ With No ‘Issues’

Updated on

Project Scorpio, which was revealed during E3 last year, is coming this holiday season, and there won’t be any delays. The mid-cycle Xbox One refresh was expected to be launched during the holiday season, and according to the Xbox head, the long-awaited gaming system will stick to its schedule.

Spencer assures fans of no change in the schedule

Xbox boss Phil Spencer took to Twitter to answer a question about the release date of Microsoft’s new console.

“[The] schedule looks very good right now, no issues,” he tweeted.

This is not surprising, given what he said about progress on the console last October. At that time, the Xbox head said that in relation to other hardware timelines, the console was a “little ahead of plan.”

In April, the executive gave indications that the console is on track. Last month, Spencer, who leads Microsoft’s global creative and engineering teams responsible for gaming, said that he is proud of the progress they’ve made on Project Scorpio and “what it will mean for the creators who fuel the passion of gamers around the world. On behalf of everyone at Team Xbox, thank you for your continued passion and support.”  Spencer added that they are excited to unveil Project Scorpio and the amazing game experiences it powers this June at E3.

He also congratulated Tarsier Studios for the hard work put into Little Nightmares. One user specifically pointed out that Xbox and Spencer are “pumping this game even tho it’s multiplat. Also strange the Metacritics 6pts higher on xb1 than on PS4.”

To this, Spencer replied, “I’ll never feel strange promoting great games.  You should play it on the platform you own..”

More details on Project Scorpio at E3 next month

Microsoft has not yet announced the console’s official release date, but we do know that it is sometime this holiday season. The actual launch date will most likely be announced next month, but those who were wondering if Project Scorpio is still on track for a launch later this year can now stop worrying. Based on the releases of previous new consoles, we can expect a release in November.

Microsoft’s E3 press conference will take place on June 11. The exclusive Xbox showcase will run through June 13, and over 500 fans will be allowed access. The briefing will be followed by the Xbox E3 2017 FanFest. Gamers who want to experience the FanFest have to be over the age of 21 and should have an Xbox Live gamertag. Microsoft will be using an online registration process this year, notes wccftech.

In recent weeks, we have had several reports about the mega-powered console. The console’s devkit was shown off, and the visual improvements were highlighted in a new picture.  As for competitors, recently there was a report about how Sony might be planning to release a next-generation PlayStation console next year.
