Millions of people around the world have already spent a handsome amount to buy the latest Galaxy S8. Of course, the Galaxy S8 is a stunning device featuring the Infinity display. It is the best Android phone you can buy right now. Samsung has confirmed that Galaxy S8 was the “best ever” launch in its history. But there is still room for improvement with the S8. We can expect to see those improvements with the upcoming Galaxy Note 8.
Will the Galaxy Note 8 look like this?
The Galaxy Note 8 will be a major test for Samsung because it will be the official successor to the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7. Many experts believe that consumers still associate the Note brand with overheating and explosions. But Samsung is confident that its eight-point battery safety check plan would prevent a Note 7-like debacle. Now a concept designer imagines what the Galaxy Note 8 might look like, and it will certainly make the S8 buyers jealous.
The concept video was created by graphic designer Muhsin M. Belaal Auckburaully in collaboration with YouTube channel DBS Designing. The rendering is based on the recent Note 8 rumors and design cues from the Galaxy S8. That’s why it looks more realistic than many other concepts that seem way too futuristic. Of course, the actual Galaxy Note 8 may look different from this concept, but it would be pretty close.
A powerful phablet
Auckburaully has dramatically reduced the top and bottom bezels. It means the screen to body ratio will be even higher than the Galaxy S8’s 83%, but there is still room for the Samsung logo at the bottom. The designer imagines the Note 8 with a giant 6.4-inch Quad HD+ display. It features 6GB RAM and 64GB or 128GB of built-in storage. That seems realistic considering the Chinese and Korean versions of the Galaxy S8 Plus already come with 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage.
The concept phone has a microSD card slot, an iris scanner, and a huge 4,000mAh non-removable battery. The current Galaxy S8 also features a non-removable battery, which reflects Samsung’s confidence that the S8 batteries won’t explode. The company had blamed a manufacturing error for the faulty Galaxy Note 7 batteries. There is no room for such errors now, thanks to the eight-point safety check plan.
Galaxy Note 8 gets dual-camera system
The concept Galaxy Note 8 features a 16-megapixel dual-camera setup on the back. The dual-camera system was expected from Samsung, considering it has become a trend since the iPhone 7 Plus. A recent leak by Russian tipster Eldar Murtazin showed that the Galaxy S8 Plus prototype had a dual-camera on the back, but the feature was dropped from the final version because it wasn’t ready for the prime time.
The concept also features 13-megapixel dual front camera for better selfies. The Galaxy S8 saw little improvement in the camera department. So, we can expect a major camera upgrade with the Note 8. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said recently in a research note that the Galaxy Note 8 dual-camera would be even better than the iPhone 7 Plus. In fact, it will be capable of challenging this year’s iPhone 8 dual camera.
Back panel is not the ideal place for the fingerprint sensor
Interestingly, Muhsin M. Belaal Auckburaully has relocated the fingerprint sensor from the side of the rear camera to below it. Ming-Chi Kuo also believes that the Note 8 would house the fingerprint sensor on the back. Yes, the fingerprint sensor will still be on the rear panel, which some Samsung fans may find annoying. An ideal place for the technology would have been under the display. Samsung was working with Synaptics to incorporate the latter’s optical fingerprint technology under the Galaxy S8’s OLED display. But it had to drop the idea due to technical difficulties.
The Galaxy Note 8 is rumored to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8895 depending on the region. These are the same processors that power the current Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. Samsung mobile chief DJ Koh confirmed the existence of Galaxy Note 8 earlier this year, and added that it would be “better, safer, and very innovative.”
Will Samsung announce Galaxy Note 8 at IFA?
Last year, Samsung had rushed the Galaxy Note 7 to gain an advantage over the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, but it turned into a PR nightmare. Samsung’s wouldn’t want to rush the Galaxy Note 8 launch this year. A few days ago, IFA executive director Jens Heithecker said the IFA Berlin event would be the ideal place for the Galaxy Note 8 unveiling. It has sparked speculations that the phablet would be announced in September, most likely at IFA.
Heithecker added that the Korean electronics giant would have the largest presence at the trade show. His statement doesn’t confirm that the Note 8 would arrive at IFA, especially considering Samsung offers a wide range of products and its IFA presentation could consist of almost anything. But then, the early generations of the Galaxy Note series were unveiled at or around the IFA trade show.
Before the Note 8, the Korean electronics giant is rumored to introduce a device called Galaxy X with a foldable display. After years of work, Samsung has reportedly developed the foldable display technology. The Galaxy X is said to be a niche device that would be launched in limited quantities to test the market.
