Plenty Of Big Games Lined Up For Nintendo Switch This Summer

Updated on

Several first- and third-party games were announced for the Nintendo Switch during the Nintendo Direct event on Wednesday. There were already expectations of more games to be added to the console‘s small launch library, and with the latest announcement, the gaming giant made it almost clear that we can expect a lot of games in the next couple of months.

Big games lined up for the Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Direct event, which was the first since the release of the Switch console, included release dates for big gaming titles that have been demoed already, like Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers, Arms, Splatoon 2 and more. There are also some titles that the gaming company has not talked about much, like the multiplayer title Project Mekuru. This game is slated to come to the eShop in the summer, but the name of the game is not completely decided yet, notes Engadget.

Nintendo’s punch fighting game Arms, is scheduled for release on June 16 and will include both 2v2 and 1v1 battles for people ready to experiment. The studio shared more videos expanding the list of boxing glove types and disclosing that elemental effects will be part of the player toolkits, notes Engadget.

During the Nintendo Direct presentation, superstars like Master Mummy and Ribbon Girl were shown as well. All fighters have their own special attributes and have to deal with hindrances like liquid-filled trampolines and columns for aerial skirmishes, notes Express.

The multiplayer shooter Splatoon 2 is slated to come on July 21. The game will arrive with three themed amiibos: Inkling Boy, Inkling Squid and Inkling Girl, and a new PvE mode to pair with the game. The Japanese company confirmed that, similar to Splatoon for the Wii U console, updates will roll out post-launch to add new content and the new game mode.

The popular classic Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers will arrive on May 26 and will include two new characters: Violent Ken and Evil Ryu.

The company said that Minecraft Nintendo Switch Edition will be released on May 11 on the Nintendo eShop and will include a Super Mario Mash-Up pack of premade Mario areas and characters. The new Minecraft game for the Switch will include split-screen mode as well. A new multiplayer action game is also in development for the Nintendo 3DS, and it will be available in the winter, notes Express.

The Nintendo Switch will see two new Sonic games as well this year: Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces. Disgaea 5 Complete, which was announced in January, will be available on May 23. Moreover, on May 19, the gaming giant is releasing extra charging docks. The gaming company concluded the event after announcing a new battery back for the Joy Cons.
