Leaked OnePlus 5 Rendering Hints At Dual Camera Setup And Metal Body

Updated on

The OnePlus 5 is one of the most-awaited smartphones of 2017, but so far, there has not been much information on its design, form factor or body. Now, however, a leaked rendering of the device suggests that it will come with a dual camera setup on the back.

OnePlus 5 to come with dual camera setup

The latest renderings from India Today give the first glimpse at the upcoming device. According to the publication, the renderings comes from “people who have seen the phone and have possibly worked on the OnePlus 5.” Further, the publication claims that the handset will be launched within the next two months and that the company is planning simultaneous launches in India and China.

The leaked image suggests a black color for the handset. As of now, there is no information on if it is the same as the Midnight Black variant of the OnePlus 3T. Many will be hoping that the company improves its manufacturing process, as last year about 60% of the units were discarded due to quality issues, notes Neowin. Apart from black, the OnePlus 5 is also expected to come in grey and gold.

The most interesting finding from the leaked rendering is that the handset will sport dual cameras. Many Chinese smartphone makers have come up with different uses for the dual cameras. Huawei, for instance, used the secondary lens as a monochrome sensor, while Xiaomi offered a telephoto lens with the secondary sensor. According to Android Central, OnePlus could use the technology to improve low-light shooting capabilities. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how the phone challenges its rivals.

For now, it appears that the phone lacks a fingerprint scanner on the back. As has been seen with the previous handsets, the fingerprint sensor could remain on the front, unless it has been integrated with the OnePlus logo, notes Neowin.

What else to expect from the OnePlus 5

The upcoming phone may retain a design similar to that of the OnePlus 3T. If this is the case, the OnePlus 5 will come with a metal frame made of brushed aluminum, possibly with similar rounded edges too, notes India Today. One source also tells the publication that the design may not be final yet, and the company may tweak it ahead of the launch in June.

Further rumors suggest that the OnePlus 5 will be powered by a Snapdragon 835 SoC and come with a 5.5-inch QHD display and a 3,000mAh battery. It is expected to be equipped with 6GB of RAM and storage configurations of up to 256GB.

Last year, the company launched two smartphones, the OnePlus 3 in July and the OnePlus 3T in November. Based on the numbers, this year the company could release the OnePlus 4, but many believe the company will skip the number 4 because of the Chinese fear of the number. Nevertheless, the upcoming OnePlus 5 is very important for the future of the company. The OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T were blockbuster successes, so the company needs to prove that its success last year was no luck, but rather, that it has the capability to be a long-term player.
