At a time when big smartphone makers such as Apple and HTC are keen to do away with the headphone jack, Motorola seems to be bucking the trend. The Lenovo-owned brand is reportedly reviving the 3.5mm port in the next Moto Z Force.
Motorola brings back the headphone jack
Both Android Authority and OnLeaks reportedly have 3D renderings of the Moto Z2 Force, and it seems that the headphone jack is making a comeback. This appears to be good news for all those who dropped the idea of buying the Moto Z series phones released last year because they lacked a headphone jack. However, those who were convinced by Motorola’s port-less concept and bought the phones will now be disappointed.
The Moto Z2 Force seems to be a blend of the Moto G5 and G5 Plus and last year’s Moto Z. A thin band that runs around the Moto Z2 has replaced the “caps” both at the top and bottom on the back of last year’s flagship. This change could have been made to allow better flow of radio signal access to the four antennas which are supposedly sitting inside, notes Android Authority.
The antennas will apparently be used by Sprint to bring Cat. 16 download speeds to the Moto Z2 Force. It means that the new Moto Z range will not be limited to Verizon, notes Android Authority. Sprint has already tied up with Qualcomm and Motorola on its LTE enhancement efforts and has showcased its progress on the unknown Moto phone.
Expected specs of the Moto Z2 Force
On the design front, not much has changed from the Z Force, as Motorola has to make good on its promise that already-released Moto Mods will be in line with future smartphones. Thus, the overall size of the Moto Z2 Force has to remain the same, as do the massive camera hump and Pogo pins, which are vital to the Moto Mod experience.
What’s changed (apart from the headphone jack) is that the new phone will reportedly have a dual LED flash for the selfie camera and a fingerprint scanner. Further, there will reportedly be a Lenovo logo towards the lower right edge. The Moto Z2 Force is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and will supposedly be leaner than its predecessor at 6mm. The battery capacity of the handset is still a mystery, notes GSMArena.
Moto C possibly for developing markets
Meanwhile, Motorola is also reportedly working on the Moto C. The phone is expected to be cheaper than the Moto E, making it more affordable in developing markets. There is doubt whether the phone will even be launched in developed markets like the U.S., notes NDTV.
The latest renderings of the Moto C and Moto C Plus leaked by SlashLeaks and OnLeaks show the budget phones clearly from every angle. In the leaked videos, it appears that the Moto C Plus is thinner than the Moto C, but the camera bump is quite visible on the Plus.
